OD, the problem is the ethics. He's advertising for free, but taking a commission, and the price to his customers is therefore artificially inflated.
Tell him to buy advertising. Simple.

Yeah, but so is any bar that announces an event on here... should that then be barred as well? I personally think it shouldn't.

You're tripping over your tongue there, OD.OrangeDragon wrote:Yeah, but so is any bar that announces an event on here... should that then be barred as well? I personally think it shouldn't.
I don't see any bar announcing events in the 'Houses for Rent/Sale' forum.
"Housing for Rent/Sale
Apartments, Villas, Flats. No agencies."

I agree with Username here. A section for businesses/services would be very useful. A lot of our posters offer businesses and services that are beneficial but perhaps don't want to or can't afford advertising costs. Give them 1 post ,only, each in the section and if they become pests, delete that post. It would save the constant ,FB like, repeat queries as to who is a good sparky/builder/fridge mechanic/real estate agent, where can I buy this or that etc.
I disagree with Vlad to an extant that they are advertising for free and should pay. If you were to lose your job and put here that you are a good teacher and are looking for a job, should you then pay? If I lose my job and put here I'm a good manager and am looking for work, should I have to pay/ As I said, give them 1 post and 1 post only, to state the nature of their business and then if posters are interested they can initiate contact. Any serious advertisers would still be more interested in paying for a banner ad, so I don't see that it would cost the site revenue.
As Taranis said, why not start a business directory? What a great service to posters that could become.
Just my opinion.

I was just addressing Vald's statement on ethics, the overall concept that they get a commission/profit without paying to advertise.Username Taken wrote:You're tripping over your tongue there, OD.OrangeDragon wrote:Yeah, but so is any bar that announces an event on here... should that then be barred as well? ^^ What?
Sorry, but you're not making sense. Either that or you're being ridiculously defensive of a ridiculous statement.
If they want to advertise, they should pay like other advertisers. Full Stop.
But, the whole crux of the matter is that you are going against the rules that you had originally set in place.
to be quite honest, I really don't give a fuck. But it doesn't bode well for your word or integrity.
And, as they say, "Just sayin'".

Re: I want your opinions on something...
It's 2 separate things in my mind. I made that rule specifically in regards to spamming... and that's why I raised the question. This seems like a nice non-spam way for an agency to behave, so i was considering waiving the rule in this exceptional case.
The other subject, the one of ethics and "if you want to promote your business, pay to advertise" that Vlad raised, wouldn't be related to that rule, but would be a site wide thing. One I don't agree with at all. We would pretty much have shut down the after dark section and only allow paid advertisers to post there. Not to mention only paid restaurants posting in the getting your fill section... and so on. Wouldn't help the forum (people who are going to advertise, will) at all, and would likely hurt it from the lack of content.

Again the issues of bars comes up... should they then be allowed to also post special events? That would break the 1 post rule. Personally, as long as they're not overboard with it, I think businesses posting their events here is good for the site. A business directory "as well" wouldn't be bad at all, and i'm far from opposed to it... but I don't think that should necessarily exclude a business from posting relevant content in a relevant section within reason.Hotdigr wrote:I agree with Username here. I know its a lot of added work for you fella's, but An "upcoming events" page would definitely be of benefit too. However I see that as being separate from a business directory. 1 of the problems with Fb and K440, is that any good information is very quickly lost in a plethora of posts. How many times I answered the question "where can I find restaurant supplies in PP?" on K440, I don't fukn know, but it was A LOT ( Ps, the answer is #188 Mao Tse Tung Boulevard") If they actualy had a directory, it would save a lot of wasted time. (Also, their search function is the biggest load of shit I have ever had to deal with).

it's not impossible. my rave forum i ran had one i built for it by integrating a similar system. it is a bit of work, but it's a feature i'd really like to add. i just wish i hadn't lost that code, would make it a lot easier... lol.Hotdigr wrote:I know its a lot of added work for you fella's, but An "upcoming events" page would definitely be of benefit too. i don't get why people hate the search on here so much... i love it.

Orange Dragon,
I think he was talking about the search function on K440 being bad.
A search on K440 for the word "axe" brings up nothing.
A search here on good ol' CEO brings up 13 references.
