Cambodian border/customs will probably need to see both passports when I exit for the border run anyway. The old one will be cancelled, but they'll want to stamp the old visa "used' regardless I would think? Too bad I probably can't go to BKK and apply for my new passport there.cautious colin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:44 pmI would guess that passports are linked electronically but there is nothing in my current passport stating a previous number or that I have even had a passport.beaker wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 5:24 pmYou do realize that the old and new passports are linked electronically and also old passport number is written in the new passport also your name will come up that you have already had an EG tootimmydownawell wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 4:15 pmcautious colin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 3:48 pmMIne took a full 10 days to get back. EG from Lucky Moto (although the stamp was dated at two days after I handed it in). I renewed a month early and got the full month added to the 6 month EG, which is now a 7 month EG.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 3:04 pm Took my passport in (A 2 Z Travel) for my EG on Friday, it's still not back. Normally takes 3-4 days, but now taking a week or more, I'm told.
At least I am sorted for the short term.
Good for you. I need to renew my passport but will wait until a month before my 3mo EG expires... then do a visa run to Thailand and return on my new passport, get E visa and apply for a six month EG. That would see me through until mid February, if they grant it.
Although I am toying with the idea of going to Bangkok and applying for a 3mo E visa at the embassy there instead of the one month E VOA, which would give me a couple more months. Perhaps PSD-Kiwi can weigh in on this?
TBH I just want to sell my place and move on, with any luck I won't need more than this three month EG to do that, but somehow I doubt it.
If you leave the country and come back on a new visa I don’t see why they would reject an EG application. Especially if the only visa in the new passport. I’m hoping so anyway.
Edit - UK passport doesn’t have the old number, not sure about others
edit: maybe I should just try and exit on the expired one? And only bring out the new one if asked?

I have a US passport and it is written on the last page in all caps " THIS IS A REPLACEMENT FOR A LOST PASSPORT" and the old numbers are given on magnetic tape laminated into the cover.cautious colin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:44 pmI would guess that passports are linked electronically but there is nothing in my current passport stating a previous number or that I have even had a passport.beaker wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 5:24 pmYou do realize that the old and new passports are linked electronically and also old passport number is written in the new passport also your name will come up that you have already had an EG tootimmydownawell wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 4:15 pmcautious colin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 3:48 pmMIne took a full 10 days to get back. ^ Definitely not noted on Kiwi passports, but possibly stored in the biometric data chip. Do US passports have the same message if it's a replacement for an expired/full passport...or is it just for lost/Stolen passports.
Several years ago I got a new passport issued outside of Cambodia, my cancelled passport still had a valid visa EOS in it, but for some reason (rushed packing, drunk) I packed it in my checked luggage so I just applied for a new E-type VOA.
When I went through Immigration to get stamped in, the Immigration officer asked me why I purchased a new VOA when I still had a valid Extension of stay in my old passport, I'll admit I was quite shocked .
So anyone who doubts that immigration doesn't have a comprehensive database of linked passports, visas and fingerprints, be aware, they do.

If its a new passport issued because old one was lost/stolen,it says that on it
If its a new passport cause u just wanted a new passport, there is nothing written on it BUT on computers all old passport numbers are available to be seen
Its ALL in the computer, Even name changes, if they want to check
Joking right? , its not just stamped expired /cancelled but also in the computer..edit: maybe I should just try and exit on the expired one? And only bring out the new one if asked?
BUT:
an expired passport can be used to enter ur own country
example;
MY daughter holds US and thai passports, she was in the states and came back to Thailand, her thai passport was expired , she showed her US passport leaving and on checkin, when she arrived in Thailand she showed her expired thai passport.
No problem.. You wont ever be refused entry to ur own country as long as u get there somehow....
Then got her new thai passport and she left on that one back to the states.

For you yes, if you get your new passport here they will definitely need to see both. Don't think it would matter too much for the eg though as you won't have an EG on the visa that you will get at the border.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 7:16 pm

I have more of a clean break as am going back to the UK to get it.
@psd it's interesting that they asked why getting a new visa when you already have one as that is likely to happen to me (runs til October, buy new in August)
Did it cause a problem or they were just asking. I would rather leave my old passport at home and start fresh.

Na no problem, told him I couldn't find my old passport, immigration officer just laughed and told me I could've used the $30 to buy beer if I had my old passport with me, I laughed and agreed.

Heloo, if I want to stay for more than 1 month, but less than 2, what kind a visa I will need?

T-type (Tourist) Visa on Arrival, 1x passport pic, $30. Valid for 1 month, single entry only.David Stearn wrote: ↑Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:29 am Heloo, if I want to stay for more than 1 month, but less than 2, what kind a visa I will need?
At least 1 week prior to expiry, apply for an extension of stay through a visa agent. Appx $45, valid for 1 month.

I thought, based upon old info, that the tourist Visa was 1 month single entry and not renewable and the other was a Business visa that you could renew for 1 year?
