And possibly apply for the visa with the correct paperwork there.Echobeach wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2017 4:27 pm I have been following this page for months and thought i had figured out all the appropriate visa information i needed and suddenly all the rules change .
I have been considering a year in Cambodia to ascertain whether i could live in Cambodia permanently .
I have e.mailed the Consulate / visa office here in the UK ; I assume it is in London , but they process applications , and asked plenty of questions . A week later , no reply at all . Is that surprising ? . I suppose i would be applying for an E R retirement visa and asking permission to stay for a year but i need clarification . Age ? Proof of funds, proof of 'retirement' .
It seems the consulate in London doesn't know or understand what the position is either !
Echobeach (far away in time) will need to get the regular $35 visa. The ER or EB will come into play when he applies for an EOS, so he can look into that when he gets here.
My situation is I took time out to travel and try to become a paid photographer . It was only supposed to be 3 years but drifted to 8 years , and whilst I had a great time i didn't make much money . I came back to the UK where i own my small modest property and thought that i could get back into paid employment , but a year later i have had 1 interview and didn't get the job . So whilst i own my home , I am constantly paying out on bills and no income . I still have too much in savings to claim Social Security benefits . Renting out my home would provide me with about $800 after agent fees . Hence pondering going back off on my travels . I suppose I won't get a clear cut answer and will have to make a decision and wing it .

Sell your house before prices crash.
Interest rates are going up which will put millions in debt, credit card debt at an all time high (first time ever people are taking cash out with credit cards. Which is madness), and then there's Brexit.
Sell up. Move out. Adventurise!

Thats a gamble . On one hand Manchester property prices are booming and then on the other young buyers cannot afford to buy and then there is Brexit uncertainty . Interest rates were high when i had a mortgage but now in the UK interest rates are 0.25% and no sign of them going up . If i could sell and put the money in a reasonably safe bond or 3 and got 7% which was normal 10 years ago I wouldn't have any worries .bangkokhooker wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2017 9:54 pm Sell your house before prices crash.

That pretty much mirrors my situation. 10 years ago after first 6 months SE Asia travel, back in UK hoping to work 6 month uk. live like a king in Asia rest of year. Not one interview in 20 weeks. Kept house, sold car, motorbikes, all my shit auctioned on Ebay. Now back at the start wondering where next.

Double sided mirrors......Had my comfortable modest life in the UK. Own business, but ended it after ten years of work getting less, but hours and paperwork increasing. Having a mortgage and savings is good but doesn't help when you are looked down on by the benefits system. You are unable to make any claims or help with prescriptions and so on. Use your hard earned monies for self support. I took the gamble, sold up and came here. Life is what you want to make of it.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Ecuador is beginning to look very appealing to me.

congrats on making a living at Photography, although the 80-90s were good, this past 15 years have sucked for me.Echobeach wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2017 9:32 pmI like to know where i stand and hate things that are not clearUsername Taken wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2017 6:00 pmIf the local Immigration officials aren't clear on any of this, the Cambodian consulates and embassies will know even less.AndyKK wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2017 4:45 pmAt least in the UK, you are in a position to see a clear outcome hopefully at some time soon. In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
