A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot - BUT with Happy Ending

A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
Many Kampotians will know the Alaska Gentleman who built his dream boathouse on the small river off the Kep road . He is a retired fisherman with a lifetime of fulfillment from fishing travelling & very good DIY handyman . & . He trusted the local Real estate agent & bought many plots of land on the small river & set about building his dream house o er the last 4 years .He made very good friends with the local Muslim fishing community in the village employing many of the locals & helping out as requested . Unfortunately the local agent sold him land without real title & despite being friendly turned out to be a calculate d fraudster ... More unfortunately he is a Cambodian well established agent that still operates today . The shock of the crime could easily kill off an aged gentle trusting man ...so this agent may still have more than a fraudulent crime against his name . It's also a crime against the good trustful citizens of Alaska & Kampot because the very bad crime will be a warning to all expats & may receive wider publicity in newspapers & television internationally ... especially as this social media post is likely to go viral.... Maybe truth will be the nail in the coffin of this unscrupulous Real Estate Agent ....he knows who he is ....& So does everyone in Kampot ....maybe soon everyone in Cambodia & the world .... Let's hope for a happy ending to this very very sad story !

There is also a video, but with very bad quality sound. However, if you watch the first minute or so, you get the drift.

Stuff like this is maddening. Take it to the highest ie: The King. Let's get laws created to protect good Expats with good Intentions.

I just see Chara's jockey virtue signalling upon her behalf (she doesn't write English this well).
Feel sorry for the old guy, but if you give all your money to a third party with no contract or agreement, what can you possibly expect?

Never buy any property here. Renting on a monthly basis is the only way. Dude must have been a loner, and misinformed. He should just leave it, and consider it a lesson learned.

Deep, gotta be heartwrenching.. Depending on the amount I'd understand rash actions. It's not just the money, it's the work and the pride.
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

Re: A Very Sad Expat Story in Kampot
I had a look on facebook. I don't know anyone involved, but it looks like a kind and compassionate person got scammed by a shark. Nobody wants to name the shark, but s/he sells real estate in Kampot, and comments on social media suggest that this is not the first time that s/he has pulled a number like this. People know who it is but are reluctant to speak up.
I understand that the defamation laws make this difficult, but if no one outs this guy, then it will be business as usual for him and more victims to follow. Or perhaps if there is enough social media outrage, the authorities will take note.

a warning to all expats ?
Really people still need warning about investing anywhere in SEA ?! Or they will just never learn ?
Anyway I hope that the guy will find a solution or some help.

one of the major reasons I moved, was an incident when a considerable amount (lets say yr or more wages for average waitress plus tips) of money was taken by someone wealthier than I could ever hope to be and I couldn't prove it and had to look at that smug 'what u gonna do look' and if you say anything you will be facing a defamation and you can sit in jail and I will get more money !!, very sad story, hope some justice comes of it.

Own justice in dark street late a night is often the solution here...
