A very good and gentle guy

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Not really a "problem", per se. I would hope he gets his dowry back too, but if allegations of infidelity are newsworthy and photos of an accused philanderer made public, then y'all better not live in glass houses. Allegations of your private indiscretions may be deemed thread-worthy by someone. And when NOT beating a woman is praised as exceptional male restraint, that it's a sad commentary.

It is a sad commentary, but this is Cambodia. How often do you read about a story like this that doesn't end with the man going batshit crazy and hurting someone? The fact that he didn't hit her and showed restraint shouldn't be news, but it is is. I'm with you on the photo and public shaming though, there's no need for that.

I assumed that's why her eyes are pixalated...

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

This cultural form of slavery will disappear once women receive more education and have both a personal and economic value that transcends housewife drudgery and farming. This cultural value of no sex before marriage, applied to women only of course, has outlived its feudal usefulness. This is just another reason why I want my daughter to study overseas where she can explore not only her intellectual skills, but her sexuality and emotional needs as well.

As for reporting this incident to the police, who will undoubtedly receive a cut of the dowry, he could have just as easily have reported the incident to his mother who could have approached the mother of the girl and demanded the money back. That is the same dynamic for the proposal. In any case, the girl has lost her good reputation in that village as well as that of her family.

For Samouth I can only say that all cultures change and there is temporary pain in seeing that which you held sacred being destroyed. But you cannot have real democracy until all people are free and that includes the right of a woman to live her life as she pleases. And please don't blame Western culture for this behavior. You cannot freeze your culture and keep it static forever. It must by nature be dynamic and women have an equal right to participate freely in it. On their terms.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I can't find anyone gentle in this story, both fiance and boyfriend. If there weren't the name on the picture, I would share some idea, but it's Not my business.

Sadly the picture comes with name and also her age. :(

So what? Do you applaud rape in Nigeria because hey, at least he didn't kill someone! Yeah it's wrong but this is Nigeria, what a great guy!

Let's call a spade a spade. It's horrible to physically hurt people whether you're married to them or not. This guy didn't, cool, neither did a lot of the rest of us.

And please, spare me the racist "he's Cambodian so he gets a free pass" mentality.
