Re: Vegemite turning halal - claims of Islamisation
No doubt this will incite a religious flamewar (again) but I personally take offense that the meat that I consume in my native country has to be slaughtered in the name of a god that is foreign to that country... to prevent offending a religious minority. I am as offended by mandatory kosher conditions as I am halal food preparation, and the Jews and Christians share a common deity - it's the principle rather than the practice. I love the Balinese response to this, their food huts serve beef balls in their pho equivalent, and their signage all says that the beef balls probably contain pork - a deliberate antagonism of their neighbours from Java.

Re: Vegemite turning halal - claims of Islamisation
It's about the cruel method of slaughter, rather than religious belief. I think non stunning is against the law in the UK, but they let the law be broken to accommodate muslims. I'm not fully aware of the issues, as I have seen arguments from differing sides, and I haven't a fully informed opinion on the slaughter, but I do hear people complain about it.OrangeDragon wrote: What non muslim beliefs are contrary to the muslim method of slaughter? Other than, you know, vegetarians (a much more dangerous risk of 'take over' really).
What I object to, is that I can't go into over 200 of the Subway franchise outlets and order pork. That is changing things to suit a minority, albeit a minority that gets it's way, many times, with threats. If you order a ham pizza in the UK, the chances are you get turkey ham, which isn't labelled as such.

I agree with this. I also get annoyed that Muslims always want changes made in order to suit them. Jews have lived in the West for hundreds of years. My dad says they never demanded kosher meals and the only request they ever made was to be excluded from religious education class (back when RE was in public schools).StroppyChops wrote:No doubt this will incite a religious flamewar (again) but I personally take offense that the meat that I consume in my native country has to be slaughtered in the name of a god that is foreign to that country... to prevent offending a religious minority. Back on topic .ie. vegemite. Doesn't look like this is new:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegemite
Anyway for Kraft co. anything goes as a sales gimmick - coming soon : gay-friendly Vegemite (in a rainbow jar), noodle-friendly vegemite for followers of the spaghetti monster, and also vegemite for the visually impaired, the hard of hearing, the hungover etc. They probably already have vegemite for Mormons. Do Australians even know that Vegemite, that great Ozzie icon, is not Australian at all; it's a pure US product ? http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/ ... istory.htm

Kosher and halal
Limited quantities of kosher Vegemite were first produced in the 1980s;[16] a 2004 decision to cease production was reversed after a backlash from Jewish consumers.[17] Around 2009, Kraft contracted with the Kashrut Authority in New South Wales for their kashrut supervision services. By 2010, all jars and tubes of ordinary Vegemite were labelled with the authority's stamp.[18]
In 2010, Vegemite received Halal certification. While this was welcomed by Australian Muslims, Kraft was criticised by the Family Council of Victoria, which labelled it as "ridiculous" political correctness. Kraft dismissed such claims as "racist [and] bigoted commentary".[17]

Also found on the internet: For a dinkum Ozzy version, forget Kraft halal and try Ozemite or Dickimite (LOL) : http://www.dicksmithfoods.com.au/ozemite-story.In 1935, the recipe and manufacturing methods was sold to Kraft Foods and has been wholly owned and made by American companies.

Screw the halal food - this is the kind of stuff to be worried about from Islamist wackos:

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/17/world/asi ... ?hpt=hp_t1Australian PM: Public execution terror plot foiled
By Ashley Fantz and Chelsea J. Carter, CNN
updated 9:58 AM EDT, Thu September 18, 2014
(CNN) -- Two men were charged Thursday in connection with a terror plot that Australia's prime minister said involved plans to carry out a public execution.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said authorities obtained intelligence about a "demonstration killing" -- a killing, Australian media reported, in which alleged assailants planned to kidnap a member of the public, behead the victim and then drape him or her in an ISIS flag.
The foiled plot comes just days after the country raised its terror alert to high and in the midst of Australia committing to helping the United States and a broad international coalition to beat back the Islamic State, or ISIS.
The militant group has been slaughtering people and taking over villages in Syria and Iraq. One of its members beheaded two Western journalists and an aid worker -- brutality that was videotaped and broadcast throughout the world. ISIS vows that it will stop at nothing to create a caliphate governed by the intensely strict Sharia law.

Suspects arrested, detained
Earlier Thursday, at least one person had been arrested and charged with terrorism offenses and another 14 were detained as police conducted more than two dozen searches in Sydney, acting Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said at a news conference.

Sadly, like Promite and Marmite, Dickmite is just not as good as Vegemite.

Back in NZ Dick sometime advertised everything is 20 - 40% off with their catchy slogan "Know-how to make it easy, That's where you go!"StroppyChops wrote:Dick Smith is an Aussie legend.
Me and the alike would rush to the store only to find out only few not worth buying products were discounted. Clever Dick!
