Unleash the tuktuk

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Unleash the tuktuk

Post by StroppyChops »

I'm fairly confident most regular viewers are tired of reading about our tuktuks by now.

Check out this other guy's tuktuk.

One of the things I don't understand is they import the three wheel moto/trucks that are open when the same factories in China makes three wheeled moto/enclosed trucks with seats, doors, windows, etc. Seems like a no brainer to import those but no one does. Most have the same engines and CC's as the moto-trucks.

It's the local market being 'thrifty'. We had our tuktuk truck enclosed, cost an extra $100. The options are available at purchase, just not usually taken up.

Bonus with the front end is no need for a helmet.

Annoying part is that we upgraded the motor to 250cc, and later found that the gear ratios and transmission cannot be adjusted away from the factory set 150cc setup. Plenty of torque, but still pulls a max of 50-60km/hr.

What size rims are on your tuk tuk ? Taller tires will increase the speed I'd use taller and wider to increase speed, stability, ride and better stopping power.

Lots of Vespa hot rod type bikes use a taller topend gear accessory to increase speed I think the same one will work for your baja tuk tuk provided you have the power.

the accessory is called a "Sprocket" a larger sprocket will provide a higher top end speed whilst a smaller one will increase acceleration

No knucklehead they don't have sprockets it is a taller clutch gear or 4th gear
A smaller rear sprocket gives higher speed a larger rear sprocket gives more torque (bottom end) and lower speed
