Unleash the tuktuk

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Most have the same engines and CC's as the moto-trucks.
It's the local market being 'thrifty'. We had our tuktuk truck enclosed, cost an extra $100. The options are available at purchase, just not usually taken up.

Bonus with the front end is no need for a helmet.

Annoying part is that we upgraded the motor to 250cc, and later found that the gear ratios and transmission cannot be adjusted away from the factory set 150cc setup. Plenty of torque, but still pulls a max of 50-60km/hr.
If anything it should allow you to cruise more comfortably without the engine gasping/blowing a piston. Not that it's a huge issue, but I've seen tuktuks stopped/pushed on both the prampal makara overpass and chrouy chongvar bridge. Shouldn't be an issue with yours. Also, I doubt many people would feel comfortable going over 60km/h in a tuktuks...

I'm not comfortable over 60 either, but a little more speed/acceleration for overtaking would be good.

Thanks to all for the suggestions on tyres/high gears. Vehicle is already too tall, and no local mechanic (even the manufacturer) is willing to play with it as the engine is overpowered to the gearbox.

The Chinese three wheel truck isn't just an enclosed Tuk-Tuk, its a whole body with doors, windows, side-by-side seats, gear shift, etc. I have looked at importing one in the past.

These things happen when one gets older. Viagra/Cialis will give you the speed you need.

Speed? Since when has speed been an issue? I thought it was all down to size.

To be fair, Stroppy does have a big one.

[We're still talking about tuk tuks aren't we?] :dragonchase:
