Typhoid

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

salmonella typhi.
pretty common in KOW.
Sorry to hear it mate. Did that last year, didn't much like it. Medicate it hard.

It's a shame that as a salmonella you don't develop an immunity to it, and it's a bastard of an infection. Easy to understand why the rural cousins can die from it if untreated.

Message me if there's anything we can do to help.

You know that it's food poisoning from (mostly) poo in food, right? I've had it once in four years in Cambodia, and once previously after spending time in SEA. You don't develop a resistance to it, although there is a vaccine that needs a booster every two years, and it does not give 100% immunity.

in that case, whats the freaking use of the vaccine? since u can still get it after vaccination and it doesnt protect u fm a particular strain

You know the annual flu vaccine? About 60% effective, and actually causes healthy people to get sick at times. The Australian government recently requested that people delay their flu vaccines...

The problem with the flu vaccine is you have to guess which strain is going to be the most virulent. There's no real negative effects to getting stuck with the wrong one, though. I was just sick as a dog for three days, someone definitely shat in my lok-lac. I couldn't even drink beer.
