Three conspiracy theories - thoughts?
I was chatting with a mate last night about the electricity/water problems and we wandered into the Land of Tin Foil Hats.
Conspiracy #1 - my thought is that the nation has realised it's not got enough water to get through to the next monsoon season (as an issue separate to driving the hydroelectric dams) and is therefore covering this by imposing power restrictions (and thus saving water in the hydroelectric dams while at the same time reducing water consumption because pumps). How many times has Fluffy Bunny asked us to wait for the rain?
Conspiracy #2 - my mate honestly believes the power outages are contrived to soften the populace into welcoming an outsourcing of electricity supply by the government to China.
Conspiracy #3 - in almost every instance, the power has come back on an hour or so earlier than predicted. My thought is that if people are told the power will be out for six hours, but it is restored after five, they will be happy it's back and not annoyed that it was out at all.
Comment #1 - my mate's school has hired a big generator to keep them going. Guess who they hired it from? EdC. Apparently EdC has a bank of generators that they loan to important people for extended blackout periods, and lease to businesses at exorbitant prices.
Comment #2 - EdC proudly announced they will be bringing a solar farm online ahead of schedule in Kampong Speu, and clearly expect to be applauded for their efforts. It's a 60MW farm and won't be running at full capacity (generating only 20MW initially) ... the shortfall is 400MW. Oh, golf-clap, EdC, golf-clap.
Just another grizzle from me today. Thoughts?

I don't believe any of them. Producing one kWH of electricity costs about 6-7 cents and they sell it at 17,5 cents. it's an extremely profitable and legal business, and EDC is losing BIG (and I mean BIG) profit every day.
It's just climate change.

Lack of preparation for climate change. It's not like droughts are new here.
Yep, fair comments otherwise - the only way supply would be outsourced would be if certain pockets continued to be lined.
Edit: or lined more.

Goldylocks stated that they are 400mw short at the moment and this will continue until the rains replenish the dams. (one rain doesn't fill a dam).
With the mega building going on and all units having a/c installed has he considered that next year it will be worse off than today.
Someone should stand on the WIN WIN monument and explain the PPPPPP meaning.
As seen in Sinoville , unless you plan and establish the correct infrastructure prior to beginning massive projects it all turns to shit (in this case into the sea)
In short, incompetence.

This. We live in Boeung Tompun and all around us the single-family (no a/c) dwellings are coming down while (fully a/c) apartment blocks are going in - but I see zero increase in infrastructure to support the vertical growth. Cambodian physics.

My power shut off at 1 today and came back on at 6 on the dot. There may be some truth to conspiracy 3StroppyChops wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 4:39 pm

Re: Three conspiracy theories - thoughts?
Yeah, I'd say conspiracy #3 has legs.
Not really even a conspiracy I'd say. Just good marketing? PR?
BTW, this isn't just Cambodia with the over-development. Thailand and the Philippines it's the same story. You can marvel at the engineering that goes into these condos, and at great length, because you're forever stuck in traffic owing to the congestion. And it's not just because they're building new condos without the necessary infrastructure; the cheap credit means everybody has to buy an SUV.
Conspiracy #2 sounds plausible. It's not two-planes-three-towers but it fits with some of the other things gov't is doing here.

Most people live in one place.
If you travel around, you will notice there are a lot more blackouts in poorer areas.
