Trying to Close Cambodia's Dog Meat Slaughterhouses

Rescue Group Shuts Down Dog Meat Slaughterhouse, Helps 6 Other Dog Meat Rescues Find Homes
By People -
November 6, 2019

Many animal lovers are aware of the dog meat trade in countries like China and South Korea, and the efforts being made to stop the trade, but far less know that the same trade is also present in Cambodia.

Thankfully, Four Paws, a global animal welfare organization, is working to raise awareness about the dog meat trade in Cambodia and the horrible conditions dogs have to endured before being slaughtered.

Along with bringing attention this issue, Four Paws is also working to shutdown dog slaughterhouses across the country and save the canines who have been forced to reside there.

Is slaughtering dogs worse then slaughtering other animals, like pigs or chickens?

Until there's a program for dealing with all the strays what's the point of stopping them being eaten? Now there's just more dogs in the bins.

Someone should tell Four Paws that in Australia retired race horses are sent to the slaughterhouse for meat for human consumption.

Slaughterhouses? These dog restaurants are pretty small operations, the dogs are just slaughtered around the back of the shack.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I'd say so, yes. There's a unique bond between humans and dogs that doesn't exist in other animals. Although dogs are clearly animals as much as cows and pigs are, we don't generally keep cows and pigs as pets.

Eating a dog feels a bit too close to eating another human, emotionally speaking.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Some people eat meat. Some people do not eat meat. If you learn how to speak Khmer and live in the province you can learn why some people like to eat meat.

Meat contains a lot of healthy protein. Some people don’t eat meat so they lack healthy protein. If you learn to speak better Khmer you can understand why. You can make friends with people who eat meat if you live in the province.
