Re: Trying to Close Cambodia's Dog Meat Slaughterhouses
I find that a very worrying trend. I've been running and biking in SE Asia for years and never had problems with the local mutts. Pitbulls, German Shepherds, and the like are a whole different matter. Most people that I see in these parts do not know how to train their dogs. This is not (much of) a problem if the dog in question is a Chihuahua. If it is a 30-kilo Pitbull, it is potentially lethal. There is a guy here in Sapa that has a Pitbull (and a Husky). When they go walkie, that dog drags him all over the place and there is no way he could hold onto it if it went bonkers.angkorjohn2 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 8:54 amHowever, I think the worst is seeing American Pitbulls for sale here. They look cute as pups but require a lot of training, discipline and correction, exercise and to know who the master/pack leader is. Totally unsuitable for the way 99% of Khmers would treat them i.e. slapping them about and not taking care of them or being too soft on them.A disaster waiting to happen, especially if they get out spreading their oats with some local street dogs.....

Bad (stray) dogs don't last long in the provinces.
My neighbor's dog bit his owner once, was on the plate the same evening. Even playful dogs chasing chickens won't last long.
Personally I have a bad feeling about telling the Cambodians they shouldn't eat dog. What's next? Muslims protesting at Western slaughterhouses? Would that be acceptable to the dog lovers around?

Like telling the Japanese to not eat whale meat.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48823580Even though it is not eaten in the same volumes now, Japan does not think that other countries can tell them what they can and can't eat.
Whaling nations have all said that the practice is part of their culture and should be able to continue in a sustainable way.

Agree Hanno, it is a big concern - there was this story last year (wasn't confirmed of the breed but sure looked to have some pitbull in it) newsworthy/woman-injured-after-getting- ... 17835.htmlhanno wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:03 amI find that a very worrying trend. where you can imagine she was slapping and kicking it and wagging her finger for discipline and then it snapped. Will happen again. I have seen online shops (puppy farms no doubt) selling these breeds and it is always followed with comments by some 20 year old girl "ooh so cute I want one". Well once it is bigger and getting in the way of your lifestyle and not getting enough exercise and hasn't been trained it sure won't be so cute when it is ripping your nieces face off after she pulled it's ears

So it's true, owners resemble the looks and attitude of their pets.Mishmash wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 4:46 pmMy pitbull takes issue - please address all correspondence to EVA - her vocabulary is around 200 wordshanno wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:03 amI find that a very worrying trend. Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Eva says she is not a pet - she is a working dog AKA as War Dog.
In addition, she is hansum, has a far better mustache than me , ears are far bigger, has IR night vision, nose can smell a bad guy 2km away and can discuss their presence via her "Dog Comms' and is loyal more than a human.
