TRAPPED TEACHER

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

TRAPPED TEACHER

Post by CAMBOTEACHER »

Perhaps this topic has been covered but I am limited on the time I have with the internet.
Does anyone have any clue when schools will reopen?

I have been teaching here for 4 years and am now out of work.
Renewed my work permit and Visa a month and a half ago just in time to be kicked out due to Covid.

Out of cash. Trapped in village. Police now looking at me for suicide concerns and I am being followed everywhere by them.
I am a respected teacher here but in 6 weeks time I have become the village dog due to not having money. Loans and help have dried up.

I am not looking for money from anyone here, just some advice. Tutors needed?

If I am repatriated to the U.S. I will be dropped in Los Angeles in the middle of a pandemic and homeless. I live on the east coast.

Trying to stay positive but shit is getting ridiculous.

Any ideas?
no moto, no food, no work, no money and a lot of angry villagers running their mouths.
I feel like Frankenstein and am waiting for the torches and pitchforks to come out.

My fault for not being more prepared but this pandemic took me by surprise.

Possibly early May

Why are you in a village? Were you teaching in the countryside?

Yeah man if youre an east coaster dont bother with Los Angeles. And if youre from Los Angeles dont even bother with Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a dump. Best guess is May back to work. The Chinese are already recovering and ramping up the big junk manufacturing machines again, so other countries should follow since it hit them later. Best of luck and remember in the countryside tarantulas and scorpions are edible, tasty even.

They could open at some point next month or not for another 2-3 months, who knows. Each country appear to have their own opinion on this but I don't see Cambodia being the first SEA country to open their schools, they will more likely follow what their neighbors do.

Thoughts and Prayers brother. There goes I but for the grace of God, and a ingrained belief that I shouldn't be in this country without at least 5 months pay in the bank and funds for an air ticket home. What about calling family or talking to the embassy?

Perhaps PP would be a better place to sort yourself out. Your Embassy should help you. You may also find some of your countrymen would assist by allowing you to run a tab for food and lodging.
If not, perhaps they could offer lowly paid work with in-kind payment in lieu of cash payment.
There are a few American business people you could approach.
A few hamburgers and the use of an otherwise empty room is no hardship for them.

Limited time on the internet ??
no smart phone, no friends, no family, no money?

the mind is amazed
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
