TRAPPED TEACHER

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. I have not left him since. I used to commute to the city for work with a rental bike. We lived in this village for over 1 year when he was born.

Thanks to those who contributed to my inquiry. To the others... just sad.

I am in touch with the embassy now. Hoping they will help.

I don't think these schools are opening anytime soon.

Good luck to all of you.
Sorry to hear that. I have a 3 year old and can't even imagine how difficult that would be. Best wishes to you man.

That story, along with yesterday's story about 300 private schools going bankrupt and closing soon if things don't start back up sounds like we may soon have many teachers in this same situation....the no money part that is. Foreign and Khmer teachers both.

Running out of money anywhere in the world will likely result in a sudden loss of respect from just about everyone around you.You seem to be thinking about what you would rather not do.If you are broke and if you have any means of returning to the states, take it.You can find a way to get assistance in America. If you are young you can join the military and within a few years enjoy a decent income,if you get back and find no other work available.Get a survivor attitude and start thinking about everything that you can do to change your situation.I have found myself in financial difficulties many times in S.E. Asia back in the days when I was younger. My financial difficulties usually were the result in a poor choice of girlfriends. However I allways went to where the work was and built up a bit of capital before returning and repeating the cycle.Eventually I found a decent girl and married and was able to build up a decent retirement income.I learned that taking any job that pays will keep you alive until you are able to find a better one keep looking for better work and sooner or later you will likely end up with a decent retirement to allow you to live where ever you wish without running out of money to live on.

Maybe he's got some seriously good weed and it's paranoia overload time.
Maybe but if he's been in Cambodia for any length of time then he should know that:

A) The last thing Khmer police are concerned about is a suicidal westerner.

and

B) Those lazy fucks don't go around following anyone unless an arrest is imminent.

I suppose you also don't believe that voodoo-practicing villagers painted a pentagram on his house with chicken blood.

Unfortunately these days not as much. I'm not saying it's not possible, but just looking at the facts and numbers, it's simply not possible for as many people. Fewer people can achieve this goal. Pay is much lower, and everything much more expensive relative to what it was 20-30+ years ago. Things just aren't what they used to be. Maybe a shift in people's acceptance of government corruption and corporate greed will come out of this pandemic stuff, and we can move toward a balance between CEO and workforce again, but I doubt it...

Where is the concern that students are missing out on education?

If this forum had a bunch of students, or was full of Khmer parents, I'm sure there would be more student concern mentioned. Since this forum has several teachers, that's the concern that you hear about here. It definitely sucks for the students missing out on education if it ends up being long term, but chances are they'll just pick up where they left off after all of this is over. They have a pause on education. The OP, however, isn't able to simply hit the pause button and pick up where he left off, nor are lots of other people working in Cambodia. For those reasons, more threads here are related to the problems of people working(or not working) in Cambodia.

I bet if you started a thread about the student aspect of this situation, people would contribute. I know I personally feel bad for the poorer students; especially the ones who are able to go to school on assistance funding and whatnot. There may not be as much of that to go around when schools resume. Many of them may completely miss out on education opportunity. Many of them are the ones who need it most, and work the hardest for it. That fucking sucks. I feel really bad for them.
