Tourist Traps

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. I thought it was owned by the same guy who owns Hops?

When one from the Cadillac-girls moved to Croisette i used to come also overthere, i would think in the years 17 or 18. The food and drinks where expensive, but they had some happy-hour-deals, a bit complicated, because it was at different hours, days and drinks. But if you payed good attention you could do a deal. The manager was a Swiss guy who was not really loved with the staff. He was found dead in Queen Wood hotel in his room where he used to live for some time. I taught the owner was a german guy who also had Hops openend around that year. Didnt go for long time even i cross in front almost daily (when i am in PP). But the food loked nice always.
Like I said I'm not sure if he was the owner but he was acting manager for sure, that was many moons ago.

In all fairness, I can only assume that the rent in those establishments along the riverside are quite a bit higher than in other areas.

Focusing on restaurants, I'm going to kick things off by mentioning a few that I've come across here, in no particular order. La Croisette (Riverside), Chiang Mai Thai restaurant (Riverside), Samaky (St 278), 4 P's (Quayside), Moonlight Villa (172), Elia Greek (Bassac), Brooklyn Pizza (TTP). How about you guys?
Samaky has .75c ice cold beets and good service
Elia has reasonably priced decent food
4Ps not expensive at all
La Croisette is expensive for what it is, but a nice place to have a coffee and relax for a couple of hours

Sure there are "tourist traps" but not sure I would put these in there (except la croisette)If anything these are frequented by people living here more

Tricky question.
Almost everything in Kampot feels like a tourist trap.
555 - I was earlier thinking about posting similar sentiments with regard to Kampot. :D

7/11 is good though, never fucks you over with the prices.
However, I can't agree about 7-11. Sure the prices are fixed, but as it's not locally owned, i rarely go there.
Very few places I visit are locally owned, aside from the actual buildings perhaps.
Either way I fail to see how the origin of the owner affects whether it's a tourist trap or not.

i'm amazed at the number of people that sit in a coffee shop for a few hours, using the free wifi & air con and ONLY buying a cup of Coffee.

as one who worked as a server in uni and beyond, those people really piss me off,

Better they stay in coffee shops than litter up the bars, sitting in the best seats and getting in the way.

Is 4Ps that Pizzeria on the Quay? I ate there. Fair prices, good service, excellent food and I ripped my one hitter while watching the river. Excellent experience.

I wouldn't consider any of those tourist traps

A fat tuktuk prick named Somchai charging elderly tourists the "special price cheap cheap for you" $65 dollars to visit Russian Market, Royal Palace and Toul sleng over two hours IS a tourist trap

La Croisette: best blueberry smoothie in town.
Chiang Mai Thai: for sexpats missing Thailand and happy with mediocre food.
4P's: my favourite pizza in PP and excellent service.
Samaky: never been.
Moonlight villa: agreed, like almost everything on 172.
Elia: excellent food, fair prices, nice place to sit.
