I just got a random text from my landlord who works as an officer at Ream National Park that said: "Save fresh water..."
my water pressure has been terrible the past few days, and even stopped completely the other night
also Lee at Coopers bar last night was saying something about the watersupply but he was saying he might be alright as hes got a different supplier compared to the rest of the street
I doubt that very much, there is only 1 water authority in SHV and it is state owned.
Ream and the villages on the other side of the hills have a private operator (pumping from the same reservoir) but never heard about this in town. That would mean a double distribution network, very costly and very unlikely.

IMO the water supply is much too cheap. When there's plenty of water, no problem. But there's no longterm plan for conserving water and providing it in the dry season.
Cambodia as a country literally floats on water. There should be enough for everyone, but it's possible that the big palm and rubber plantations are sucking some areas dry.

I was told today that rolling cuts in the water distribution will start very soon.
Re: Water Shortages in Sihanoukville
The reservoir by Independence beach is about dry. Its very shallow anyway. I believe that the private water works out by the falls is the backup water for the city. A couple years ago when the city was without power, it was also with out water as the company said they had to run their diesel generators to pump water to the city and it was costing them more than they were making on the water. I believe I remember HE got really pissed about this and told the governor that this will not happen again.
The one story I have heard for a couple years is that the guy/company that owns the brewery on the hill offered to bring big earth moving equipment to the Independence reservoir and make it deeper for free and the powers that be asked how much he would pay them. (just a rumor I've heard a bunch of times.)

no but I dont think its used to supply shv with water,it would mean pumping up hill to storage or customers, so don't get too concerned
maybe the cement works use it but I'd imagine most of it is evaporation plus it filters into the sea anyway

as i am from sigapore i have been taught how to conserve water since my childhood days, it sickens me to see that khmer are wasting water like fishes in a party, but on the another hand, khmer would be sicken at how the singaporean wastes food.

Rolling cut-outs may work with electricity , cause it cannot be stored at home, but with water people will still use the same amount of water every day by filling up
large containers with water when ever it is flowing.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Water Shortages in Sihanoukville
SinBoy: If the reservoir at Independence beach is not the city water supply, why is it going down so fast? Why when it ran dry a few years ago the city was without water? Why is the water company office on its shore. Please, think and know your subject before making rash unfounded statements. BTW/ I live real close to it, but am lucky to have a deep well.
