On the bright side, if it happened, we could import stuff from China and not need to pay extra tax/duty

This attitude translates down to the people. They think nothing of asking for a handout, cashed up, or not. And, a loan you don't repay, is money earned. Happily undignified.

You know most of these projects involve loans? It's not free money.Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 11:39 amThey say that with pride. We don't just ponce of China, we ponce off lots of countries!CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 11:32 am The key word here is "only":

Yeah, just joshing about the fact they won't fund anything themselves and announces with pride that they've found someone else to fund a hospital or a road.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 12:29 pmYou know most of these projects involve loans? However, when the huge debt pile starts to claim an ever increasing proportion of the annual tax revenue, the current incumbents will be long gone (probably out of the country) and the poor Cambodian citizens will be paying for it all through taxes.
But, in fairness, that can be said of the UK too, £2.59 Trillion and counting.

I'll cop the first sentence - I appologise for the generalisation, and any offense. "They" should have read: "It is not uncommon for those I know, which is many and varied walks, to..."
The second sentence was witless and inanely unrealistic. You lost hand. Not what I would expect from you.
Even if it were true (or possible), there could be something positive to be said about one that wants to protect the vulnerable. You shouldn't disrupt others employment unnecessarily; I don't come down to the docks and knock the sailor's cocks out of your mouth.
