Samurai Swords Sold on Social Media in Cambodia. Legal or Illegal ?
Samurai swords advertised for sale on Facebook.
Cambodia News: Note that this is not posted as an advertisement, but as an illustration for discussion.
Here we have people selling what are called samurai swords, that are being openly advertised on Facebook and shipped around Cambodia. But, is this legal, or are they defying the authorities ? And what will happen if you buy one ?
At one time, it was possible to find most weapons and firearms in Cambodian markets, but there has been a clampdown by authorities. Where do these online samurai sword sellers come in ? Judging by the facebook page, one would presume that this was legal trade.
However, samurai swords are the weapon of choice of small time Cambodian gangsters and thugs, and it is not uncommon that people are arrested for the possession of a samurai sword. So, are they legal to buy, or not ?
Other sharp objects for sale from the same sellers

People don't use those knifes at the dinner table or for spreading butter on bread. They should be banned.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The only thing people should be arrested for is sale of counterfeit goods - crappy copies.
Should just be sold as Khmer swords that are still utterly useless versus a Khmer woman with a meat cleaver scorned.

Knives don't spread butter; people do.

"Can you chop open coconuts with it?" seems to be the test my wife puts all kitchen utensils through. These don't look like they'll pass.

Why not just use a quality machete? I keep one by the bedside to beat back any threatening coconuts. Or are those banned there too?
Swords require skill to wield, machetes just need a clean chop.
In the age of Pirates (the ones the roamed the Spanish Main), pirates used the cutlass over the more common rapier or long sword.
Nothing beats an angry wife with a chopper.

As far as i know bladed tools are allowed if you have a genuine need for them, but weapons are not. A sword is a weapon and therefore not allowed it serves no purpose as a tool. Fishing knives and machetes are allowed but only when needed like onthe way to/from fishing or the fields. People have been arrested for carrying them when the police do checks.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Feb 08, 2019 11:37 am Why not just use a quality machete?
