Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. Water Purifier

Post by rozzieoz »

I bought one of these the other day and it’s really great!

I thought some of you might be interested, it certainly saves carrying huge bottles of water.

$23 from Aeon supermarket at Aeon 1 ( I assume Aeon 2 has it as well).

How's the taste, Rozzie? Did you notice if they carry replacement cartridges?

Yes they sell the cartridges for around $5 and the water tastes fine. I’m quite impressed so thought it was worth sharing. :)

Ive used one of these for the past ten years.
Bought in Russian market and replacement bulbs and filters can be bought there for 4-5 dollars. There are various sizes of filter so when you want to buy replacements take the old part with you for comparison.

Just take it apart and wash it every couple of months and then replace the components when necessary.

Here is a way to test it to see if it is filtering everything out of the water.

Put some food coloring in the water supply side. Just pretend the coloring is a trace of agent orange that got into the system somehow.

My water distiller removes food coloring.

Thanks. We've been doing the blue bottle shuffle for years, haven't wanted to pay for an electric purifier and often wondered if these are a good solution.

We've used the same for the last few years. Fine for Phnom Penh water, and improves the taste slightly. Doubt I'd rely on it exclusively if I was outside the PPWA supply. Filter > bottles > fridge.

The ceramic filter at the top will get disturbingly filthy within a month or two. Unscrew it and give it a good scrub with a new scourer under running water, rinse and put it back together.

Also considered a $150+ inline 3 stage filter, but this does the job. $25 bucks well spent.

Keep it out of direct light or algae will grow inside and you'll be wondering why your stomach is upset. LOL

I paid just $36 for a three stage one on St 107. Been using it for almost a year no problems but new filters probably overdue (it's on my to do list).

PP water is pretty good. I'd probably use either a combination of the three stage plus UV, or a distiller elsewhere.
