Doctors in Phnom Penh.

Exactly Lawyer hits out at Scott case "farce"https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... case-farceKammekor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:44 pmThere's other sources making other statements, so publishing a single URL here doesn't tell the whole story. This happened in 1995, and even though in a lot of cases 'when there's smoke - there's a fire' we also know Cambodia's judicial system is far from flawless, and was even worse back then.fax wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 2:59 pmWhy do you give me negative karma for mentioning public facts? Is it because you are friends with Dr. Gavin Scott who was sentenced to 2 years in prison in Cambodia for sexually assaulting five Cambodian teenage boys?

It just says the boys were teens. How old exactly? Big difference between 13 and 17.
Move this to another thread, perhaps?

14 and 16 during sentencing.
Dr. Gavin Scott shared his thoughts about the age of consent https://cambodia440.blogspot.com/2015/12 ... ge-of.html
As you can imagine he thinks it is too high.
The age 18, as mentioned in the UN convention on the Rights of the Child, is nothing more than a reflection of American influence, since 18 is the age of consent in most American states.
Ironically, Cambodia is partly in this judicial mess because of the example NGOs set in 1995. What exactly is the moral difference between corrupt NGOs altering statements and fabricating evidence to get an innocent into prison, and corrupt judges altering statements and ignoring evidence to let guilty persons out of jail? Allowing NGOs to get away with illegal acts eventually harms us all in one way or another.
He denied having sex with anyone younger than 14 https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... n-not-boysThe most common age worldwide at which sexual consent can be given is between 14 and 16. There are no logical, biological, legal or medical reasons to have an age of consent higher; proponents of a higher age do so for religious or moral reasons.
One of the victims claimed Dr. Gavin Scott had a gun placed on the table during the act. Police found 3 firearms and their required permits in his house during the arrest https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... n-not-boysGavin Scott acknowledges having had sex with "young Khmer men" but said he did "not go with 11, 12 or 13-year-olds".
Scott accompanied police officers to search his house on the afternoon of June 22. Three firearms, with the proper permits, were found, according to police officers.

How does this affect his capacity as a doctor?

Up to $70 now? Haven't been there in several years. Anyway, Kammekor, you are correct. Seeing a Bangkok hospital specialist is seriously inexpensive and, in my experience, the doctors have been pretty good. So $70/2100 baht is rather rich when a BKK medical specialist will charge 1000=1500 for the visit.Kammekor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:40 pmIf you go for the best healthcare around, you better leave the country now.dron wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:21 pmPersonally, I go for the best healthcare my money can buy. You are of course free to go to a lesser or less expensive doctor. You could even go to a village witch doctor. Or save real money and don't go to any doctor at all.that genius wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 2:47 pm It's also just stupid to spend $100 on a doctor when you can see an equivalently-qualified one for less than half the SOS price.
Aurora Clinic or Chenda Polyclinic are more than adequate
Bio-Med on Kampuchea Krom for cheap, same-day, emailed, blood and other test results
Just remember that you can't take any saved money with you when you die.
While Scott is an excellent GP, don't you think 70 USD for 10-15 minutes of his time is a bit expensive? I can consult a neurologist, urologist, ENT specialist of whichever specialist (not a GP) in Bangkok's most expensive hospitals for half to two-third of that amount.
Personally I think 70$ is over the top for a consult in PP.
But Dron won't see this because he believes high cost equates with top skills.
Re: Doctors in Phnom Penh.
I just checked my bill from January. It was $70 for a consultation. I do have insurance, and he did ask that as one of the first questions, both this time and a few years ago. I don't know if that affects the price in any way.

Re: Doctors in Phnom Penh.
I can only second @Kammekor's remark:
Yes, @username, Scott always asked about insurance. If you have, the fee is higher. At that time the difference was something like $5, if I recall correctly.
On top of that: in recent years, I've heard a few people complain about Scott's diagnosis (and as it turned out: in 2 cases he indeed had it wrong!) Which not only raises questions about his fee, but about his 'excellence' as well. Where I thought, with quite a few others, that Scott WAS the first point of call in case of a medical advice from a GP, I'm not so sure now. In fact, I'm probably not.
The doctor mentioned by @that-genius, Dr. Julie Thongsavane, seems like a good alternative. Although - I'm hesitant to say it - as a male being examined by a female feels uncomfortable to me (same the other way around, I guess).
Wondering why not anyone mentioned Central Hospital. Although I've never been there, I've read some good reports on this forum.
I have been to Scott a few times, but long time ago. And not only for me, but also for some of my staff. However, now that I see he raised his 'starting' consultancy fee to $70, I'm thinking: sorry, that's over the top. A GP in my home country charges less than that, so yes, in Cambodia it's ridiculous. And no, higher cost doesn't mean better care. Not in Cambodia. While Scott is an excellent GP, don't you think 70 USD for 10-15 minutes of his time is a bit expensive

Re: Doctors in Phnom Penh.
Dr Scott specializes in venereal and tropical diseases as far as I know.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I always go to Thailand for the big stuff.
Better than US doctors in my opinion.
