What's happening with the old Freedom Park?
I drove past it today and they're walling it up. Big silver sidings over the whole thing which should be finished within the week. I figured it was because it's 2018 and they're taking preventative measures, but then my lady reminded me that they'd already "moved" the park far out of sight. So had the area already been sold to some Chinese "developer" or something instead of keeping it public property? I don't remember hearing anything about what they'd be doing with it.

"Meth Measpheakdey, a City Hall spokesman, said the new site would be named Freedom Garden, and would comprise parking lots, gardens, restrooms and a stage which will be used both for public events and protests."
Do not see any signs of more condos, but we will see. Got a feeling it will be shuttered until long after the election because it is a proper substantial fence, not a temporary lashup

I thought they said the parking lot would be underground? They'll probably flog above ground level to developers otherwise it could still be Freedom Park.

Will be the same underground car parking as just up the road near Vattanac tower. They also have recently completed taking bore samples all the way to the Night Market. It is all planned for underground parking.

Well it could be funny. lat year a road collapsed and swallowed a few cars at olympic. One reason suggested was that the deep foundations put in for the Much needed apartment blocks was diverting underground water flow and condensing it intpo rivers which washed away the underpinning of the road. basically bu the time they have completed filled the water table with 100 metre deep concret piles where is the water going to go?Barang chgout wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 8:44 pmSurely you mean underwater?timmydownawell wrote:I thought they said the parking lot would be underground? Maybe the parking will be surface level and the officially designed protest area will be relegated underground.

It was pretty obvious what happened, they dug out a big pit right next to the road without reinforcing it. Strong rain/floods washed out the underlying material, and the road collapsed.pczz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 11:05 pmWell it could be funny. lat year a road collapsed and swallowed a few cars at olympic. Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: What's happening with the old Freedom Park?
i am not a drainage engineer but the way it was explained was that in rain season the water soaks in between one and 2 meters and flows downhill. it it hits a big lump of concrete all the water has to be diverted along the concrete until it hits the corner and then it flows round the cornerand carries on going down hilll. So if the foundation is 10 metres wide, then 10 metres worth of water comes together at the corner creating a stronger, more erosive currentJohn Bingham wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 11:43 pmIt was pretty obvious what happened, they dug out a big pit right next to the road without reinforcing it.
