Re: More changes in SNV
And to think SNV was the first place on my destination list, looks like I'll be adjusting that. Tbh a guy could probably make a killing if he learnt mandarin (or the others)
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

Lucky Ocean supermarket had a KFC in the same building. has that gone also?rozzieoz wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 11:25 pm Driving around the golden lions tonight- they have pulled down a whole lot of street signs, including some of the really big ones.
Rumour has it this was paid for by a group of Chinese casinos, since the signage was bad luck.
Also, Lucky Ocean supermarket and the Russian furniture shop above it are completely empty and gutted.
Changes happening so damn fast in this place!

Last time I was there Golden Star Mart down the hill on Ochhuteal Street had just closed down and they were also in the process of gutting that place so there are hardly any decent supermarkets left in that area now.
And I always used to stay at Chan Sovankiri guesthouse at the top of the hill but when I arrived last time they told me they are no longer in business and they were all sitting around playing cards.

Totally agree. I'm nostalgic for the way it was from about 2006 -2013 but now it has been decimatedJamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2017 4:55 am fucking the way things are going, can see me ending up in PP,
i used to like the lazy beach vibe down there, but now the place is turning ugly, losing a lot of its charm,
cant even say its anything to do with the "honeymoon/rose tinted glasses" period, the place has changed a lot,
tbh the only thing thats gradually improved over the past 5 years has been the square lol

Re: More changes in SNV
I had dreams of retiring to a nice, one-bedroom, with pool, ocean view condo in Snookie... until last summer when I went and had a look. I live in China now. I don't want to retire to 'China in Cambodia'.
You could be next.

I was there in similar times, was a better place, maybe try a place off the beaten path like FLB doesobelisks wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2017 4:02 pmTotally agree. I first saw Sihanoukville in 1996 when it was a sleepy KHMER coastal village. It has been devastated by various ethnic groups and by the insatiable greed of tourons as well.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Speaking Mandarin and being Chinese are so not connected.JUDGEDREDD wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:52 pm And to think SNV was the first place on my destination list, looks like I'll be adjusting that. Tbh a guy could probably make a killing if he learnt mandarin (or the others)
Re: More changes in SNV
Two or three years ago I put S'ville on the short list of likely living destinations, since there were reports of it being on a bit of a rejuvenation trend. But the wrong kind, it seems. Had had enough of PP and its descent into traffic/people chaos. SR was a high choice too but it's choking with hipsters and sino-tourists. After a recent short spell back in Pattaya (what was I thinking?!?!?), tomorrow I'm shouldering the bags and headed to Vung Tau as a full-time resident. Yes, I've been back and forth but quiet, pleasant VT is only on the holiday radar of Saigonese. Just a bunch of Aussies and a few Russians.
