Tonlie Sap Lake water
I notice the water in the Tonlie Sap has been flowing out for the last 3 days. The water levels are very low compared to past years.

Water levels are very low across the country, methinks. Certainly many Bareis around Temple Town are the lowest I have ever seen.Duncan wrote:I notice the water in the Tonlie Sap has been flowing out for the last 3 days. The water levels are very low compared to past years.

Re: Tonlie Sap Lake water
The Tonle Sap has reversed? Hadn't noticed. The appearance of water hyacinth always seems to accompany the reversal.

Japan wades in on Tonle Sap algae
Tuesday, 14 March 2017
The Japan International Cooperation Agency has agreed to oversee a project to help recover water quality in the Tonle Sap lake in response to the appearance of a large bloom of algae.
The project is part of a wider five-year initiative to improve water quality in the kingdom, according to Say Bora, the program officer at JICA.
Mr. Bora said the project is expected to create an environmental database on Tonle Sap lake, plus a platform and analytic tools for monitoring the water environment there.
“We are planning the project to address the bloom of algae in the lake,” he said, adding the goal is to achieve long-term preservation of Tonle Sap Lake by building the capacity of officials to manage the lake using scientific and administrative skills...

Currently working in the Delta and the farmers are getting clobbered between the draught and the salt water incursion. Read in the Vietnam News this week that farmers are only allowed 2 rice harvests per year instead of the usual three.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2017 11:26 am Another drought will be interesting to watch from the perpective of the Mekong delta saltwater incursion. I think the JICA should go back and look at the fuckup they made in the design of the drainage in putting all water into underground tanks on riverside , then having discharges into the Tonie Sap Lake. Even a 5 year old or moto-dop could design a system where everything goes into the river.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2017 10:30 am Japan wades in on Tonle Sap algae

With PP city having no proper sewer treatment system and a ever increasing population, I hate to think of what the Mekong and Tonie Bassic will be in the future . An open sewer drain like street 107.
