Times running out and it's lost in the system

Post by kgbagent »

So I ordered 6 solar led motion sensor lights to put around a fence for the total cost of $84.56 including shipping from Ali Express to Kampot.

The order was shipped on 3rd July from the warehouse and flew out of China on the 4th July via Singapore. It supposedly arrived in Cambodia on the 12th of July via Singapore Post according to the AE / Singapore Post tracking pages and the comment since the 12th July is "awaiting customs clearance".

I tried ringing the Customs people who had no idea, I visited the local PO in Kampot and whilst they had a record of the tracking number as far as they were concerned it was not in Cambodia in their system. I msg the seller asking if they could get some info and they never replied.

I heard some people saying that imported items over the value of $50 they are now collecting importation tax. They have my name and phone number clearly on the order and packaging and I have been forced to answering unknown numbers since the 12 July. I have 4 days left to dispute the purchase on AliExpress where I should get a refund.

The cynical view is that the duty on $86 they cannot be bothered collecting so the goods are now government property ( or the guy in customs who needs some new lights ) but, assuming I get a refund, the seller is unlikely to ship to Cambodia again. As more and more sellers lose their products it will possibly result in no shipping to Cambodia.

I dont mind paying some duty and perhaps the problem is that the Post Office cant collect the duty?

Any ideas?

You have 6 motion detectors, 6 solar pvc's, 6 batteries, and 6 leds engineered into a nice small efficient ip66 package + shipping. If the price is too good to be true, then....

Use Ebay or Amazon. You will always get your package (or at least get a refund).

I bet $30 DHL shipping sounds cheap now.

Not at all and from memory DHL was not an option anyway.

I wasn't in a hurry and still have nowhere to install them as envisaged so time is not the issue.

I got a helmet camera value $120 delivered from AE via Singapore Post that arrived in Kampot Post Office who called me to collect. I also ordered a -$400 BBQ on AE air-freighted via DHL for an extra $320. DHL rang me and said I could come and do the customs clearance myself or pay them $65 to do it for me. I realised if I did it at DHL then they would consider that delivery and I would then have to get it to Kampot so I got them to do it and it arrived on the Sorya bus the next day.

I will get a refund from AE as well - Amazon dont deliver to Cambodia as dont many ebay sellers.

As for the price I suggest you have a look for yourself - hundreds of products in that price range so price is irrelevant in this context. More pertinent, if rumours are correct, then items just over $50 value require duty collection and it is problematic for me to make a trip from Kampot to PP return to pay a duty of about $4

The post office calls us evey single time a package arrives here in PP. Did you have your number on the label?

I have ordered over 20k USD from Ebay in the last 2 years to various locations in Asia (everthing from cctv systems to laptops to crap super cheap Chinese items). The only packages that never came were items that were dirt cheap with Chinese origin. Price and location of product origin does matter based on my experience. Your package is gone.

Order something from Germany, UK, Australia or US and tell me it does not arrive. Wont happen.

I've received everything I've ever ordered from Ali Express, it just takes fucking ages unless you pay $300 for express mail on a $20 digitizer. I've had stuff in snail mail turn up three months later in Shv.

I've had three out of three packages from GearBest delivered to my door by DHL in the past month - free post (which is obviously factored into the product cost) but I've paid for tracking and insurance (a few extra dollars each package). But I still wouldn't recommend GearBest for anything technical as their after-sales support is worse than terrible. Kudos to DHL though, two of the packages took 2 days to get from mainland China to my door, and I received tracking and delivery SMSs.

Amazon have been delivering to Cambodia for ages, and they use DHL. Some individual sellers on Amazon won't ship here but enough of them do for it not to be an issue. Had plenty of stuff delivered by them.

So contact AliExpress and let them know the item has not arrived. They will put in in contact with the seller to work out an agreement. That will cause the seller to look into the shipping info and you have covered your ass with AliExpress.

My bet would be it's still in transit.
