Throwing rubbish in the rivers

With a few exceptions, Cambodians who live near rivers, throw their rubbish in the rivers. A lot of it cant be seen as it is below the surface. Some rubbish is on riverbanks, and gets washed out to sea when the river level rises.

There is talk about rubbish in the oceans. Cambodians are contributing big time.

Another astute observation by our resident Guru.
3 simple statements that defy logic!

1: Cambodians who live near rivers throw their trash in the river.
And those that live near roads throw it on the road. Your point being??

2: some of the trash sinks out of sight.
Connecting the dots I see ... we can’t see it but it has sunk below the surface... jeez, who would have thought that would be why we can’t see the trash in the rivers?

3: There is talk of trash in the oceans and Cambodians are contributing to this.
This will be sorted when the government relocate all those living in floating villages... then they will dispose of their trash in an environmentally acceptable way at last.

@ explorer. I think that foreigners are well aware of this problem. It would be more useful to get this message across to your Khmer friends and relations. You could organize a clean-up of the riverbank for example, or some places do have regular clean-up days that you could join. You could also alert Cambodian people to the evils of plastic bags, and encourage them to wash them and reuse them, and also to take a reusable shopping bag to the market. When you go shopping, explain to the shopkeepers why you don't want any more plastic bags. There are many little ways that you can educate Cambodians to reduce plastic consumption by setting a good example.

I agree with Anchor Moy. explorer, with your exceptional insight and the ease that you are able to see problems that others seem oblivious to, you have an obligation to bring this horrific difficulty to the Cambodian people's attention. You are our Joan of Arc or Paul Revere so to speak. Why don t you take your unique talent and organize anti-plastic bag protests?
