Threatened by That Sick Fuck Mododop!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. One time I got aggressive with a particularly insidious motodop who works Riverside and followed me once for half a block with "want marijuana" "want massage" "want young girl - got very young" --- where I lost it -- turned around in front of a crowded restaurant and said very loudly "I don't want any fucking young girls now stop following me" . He looked surprised and with a lot of people looking at us turned his moto and sped off.

Probably bad judgement on my part to escalate to that point, but we all have our boundaries. I would not take the chirping in Khmer from frustrated drivers who cannot find fares too personally though.

This is almost certainly the same man. He approached me again last week while I was walking, it was as though he'd never spoken to me before. Really odd and creepy.
Walk into an alley or somewhere with no witnesses. When he follows you there, kick his ass and he won't be able to identify which foreigner did it to him.

That sounds like a bad B action movie imo, I'd suggest not attacking the locals on random as a barang, especially not around the RIverside.

I am 50/50 it is either or, happened to me several times just back from Riverside a few times a couple years ago, surely not the same guy ? But just pulling the same extortion "scam".

You expect that motodop would have a go at him alone? No chance. If he comes at you it will be with 7 of his buddies and it won't be only with fists. If someone wants to be the tough guy hero, he damn well better really be a tough guy.

If he follows you like a puppy and there are no witnesses, obviously it's just one guy. Since we all look the same to him. How is he going to identify you later?

Not sure if you guys have read the thread, but he threatened to shoot me a few weeks ago because I got angry with him.

Also, it is probably unfair to call him a Motodop. I've encountered him numerous times over the last few years and he's never actually asked if I wanted to go somewhere, neither have I seen him with any passengers. It is always his vice providing spiel. So, I suppose this adds more weight to the possibilities that he's solely involved in pimping kids and dealing drugs or he's a plant.

I read it. You said you didn't think he had a gun, or couldn't see the outline. Beating him up wouldn't solve anything, other than personal satisfaction. Ideally you'd want him arrested and put away for awhile. If he actually has a gun that should be enough to have him arrested.

You would be surprised. We don't look the same. I often encounter Tuks Tuks who remember me from journeys taken a month ago.

Physically attacking the guy is not a good idea. Even if you are bad ass enough to fuck him up, it's a vendetta culture and you could well find yourself strolling down Riverside only to get a machete or iron pipe to the back of the neck.

I like the idea of getting his photo, posting it, and then putting some serious pressure on NGOs to deal with him as a potential perp --- failing which it might become obvious they are protecting him as a plant --- in which case the same NGOs need to be called out public for such a sleazy and unethical approach to the problem.

I'm not saying we look the same to all Khmer, just this one. JP did say this..

"This is almost certainly the same man. He approached me again last week while I was walking, it was as though he'd never spoken to me before. Really odd and creepy."

I've been recognized years later in PP, and called out by name by people I barely remembered. But this guy acted like he'd never spoken to him before. Just a week later. One way or another he should be dealt with. I would think pimping children is illegal. And personally I would be very insulted if someone thought I was interested in buying children for any reason. I'm sure you or the OP would be as well.
