No! Mr C, please feel free to interject in a topic related way. Lest Mr ST and Mr D, continue this thinly veiled Man-courtshipMr Curious wrote:oh...it's about drinking and religion now. I was gonna post about living cheaply. Sorry, carry on.

Cray to revive a thread from 2014 but what a great read and may be worthy to weigh in again on living on the cheap in the kingdom.

EVen after 9 years, i still see the possibility: 300 for a small room in a geusthouse, 40 a month visa, 10 for phone, dont go eat at restaurants and drink 75c beers, and it will do it in my eyes, 5 beers a day, makes 120 dollar a month, leaves you 530 dollar or 17.5 a day to spend in "others". I never tried, but its no problem i would say . . .

The market rent where I live in the west is 1,500/mo. That alone would do me fine in cambod. But even while things are expensive here I don’t drink or smoke and cook all my own food - mostly carnivore and still it’s no more than $10/day. I have car insurance and gas and a few utility bills. Still less than $2000/mo. I’m sure I could do the same in Cambodia. $300/mo food $300/mo rent and $100 for incidentals like cell and moto. $700/mo bam! That’s living alone though - my lady - well that’s a whole other story. Pretty sure she spends her whole paycheck on food - always chasing food and fruit and doesn’t really cook at all. When we travel I give her money so she doesn’t have to ask me all the time but she won’t spend it and just waits for me to pay lol.
We do have land and when I build it will be rent free plus two suites with positive income. Then will really be living cheaply.

Depends where you live. A good Western 1 b/room apartment in Siem Reap plus utilities averages 300, visa renewal 295 a year / 24 a month, phone data 5 a month (who makes calls?), eat out 3 or 4 times a week with meals around $5, same with beer in bars, taxis 10 a week or run a motorbike 5 a week, still leaves plenty for groceries and home cooked meals, and a bit saved up for emergencies. I know plenty of expats in that particular boat, all living happy though careful lives.Bongmab69 wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 4:20 am EVen after 9 years, i still see the possibility: 300 for a small room in a geusthouse, 40 a month visa, 10 for phone, dont go eat at restaurants and drink 75c beers, and it will do it in my eyes, 5 beers a day, makes 120 dollar a month, leaves you 530 dollar or 17.5 a day to spend in "others". A couple of the best cost of living videos for cambodia that I have seen this year. This couple's vids provide great information if you are thinking of moving to Siem Reap, Big up Jeremy and Claire!
