is this for real concerning wp??

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

is this for real concerning wp??

Post by phuketrichard »

MY god!!!!

http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/13889/ ... ners-next/
"From now on at the departure area of Cambodia’s three airports, passport control is checking to verify that departing E Visa holders also have a work permit. Those who do not must pay a fine if they want to catch their flight. The outcome can depend on the relationship between passport control and the expat."
"A big problem is that the law is retroactive. For example, a French citizen working in Cambodia for eight years must pay for a work permit for each of these eight years. At $100 per license, the math gets salty. Without counting the fines."

Who is affected?

The work permit law covers all foreigners working in Cambodia, with the exception of diplomats, foreign government employees and domestic servants. Anyone who receives a salary should have a work permit. A small business owner living in Cambodia also needs a work permit.

As far as retirees receiving pensions, Cambodian law is unclear.

so if u dont have a wp they will not allow you to leave??? Unless u pay a fine... $10 $25 $xxxx

this is a magor fuck up
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

This is total bollocks. It's based on an internet rumour started by an idiot in Siem Reap... immigration don't handle work permits. End of story.

Just ludicrous. Considering at least one official said non-working expats don't need a work permit.

Anyone on an ordinary (biz) visa without a work permit, leaving Cambodia after Aug. 1, please report!

It's rumour now...but if Khmer officials read it, it won't be for long.

Can someone in Siem Reap run over that wannabe accountant who started the rumour.

I just applied for a teaching job today and the school director said they are fining people on departure at the airport if they have E visa and no work permit. I havery called several ministries and read several articles but cannot get clear information about this. if anyone is leaving cambodia with an E visa and no work permit it would be very much appreciated to have a reply about the outcome.

My advice is STFU about it. The more you approach government departments the more chance you will have of paying a big fine. Where do you think you are living anyway? Greceda?

I have been back in Cambodia for a few weeks now and have departed via Pochentong International to Thailand twice since, not been asked for WP or proof of once, as predicted when this bs article was first released.

Edit: Just to clarify, I have a 12 mth E-type Visa and do not work in Cambodia.
