Things you might not know about Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I was just thinking what does that even mean in Cambodia? 10 years ago getting 100$ a month would have seated you firmly in the middle class. Now, a middle class Cambodian can probably afford a car that a middle class American couldn't.
My family doesn't have car either, but we have regular income. I think they actually afford to have car, but just they are living in the province and thought it is not really practical as having motorbike is enough.[/quote]

Your family must be like me, I can afford a car or moto, but I find these a very reliable means of transport that never let me down.

Yeah, nah, "your" both right, it's not as though I posted that as humour.

I bet Samouth realised I was joking.
It is fine. It is not my mother tongue. i don't really care. Imagine if you guys have to write khmer.
Your English is absolutely far better than my Khmer, I promise you.

Samouth, I think your perspective on this thread has been very interesting.

One of the reasons many, including myself, are glad to have Cambodians on CEO!

I know that not every comment directed at you was flattering, but that's ok, nobody has to always agree with everyone else.

Don't let it get you worked up. Again, many of us don't get to discuss topics like this with Cambodians a lot, so to get your thoughts on shit is really cool.

Bottom line is you left a shit job. I think one of most people's biggest problem is staying at a shit job.

Hell, I got fired from a mail sorting room at a hospital once, LoL. Thank fuck they fired me. That was a shit job. (I think I lasted half a week before my agency told me the hospital didn't want me back because I was "too slow." I assume they meant "slow" as in speed, and not referring to my mental capabilities, LoL. Leaving that place brought me to better jobs, of course.)

Oh, Playboy's not that bad.

OK, he's English, I grant you that, but he's got French blood, that makes him almost civilised.

I really don't understand, if you have a better choice than starting with shitty job, why can't you just do the better one.
You can, you did and it was clearly the right decision for you, chalk it down to experience. Re your original OP, " So far I still not get over it " - don't dwell on it , it was only for 3 days 4 years ago you may well encounter worse at some stage of your future career, hopefully not. Paraphrasing your OP, because it's a recognisable 5 star brand you thought it would be a great place to work. Never assume that recognisable brand companies treat their employees well, they are successful at making profits which can and often does involve less than generous staff conditions. If you make a success of your career and reflect on it in future years the only likely guarantee is the guy standing serving you a drink in a decent restaurant or hotel is still on a shit wage. Drop him a decent tip if he's good at his job, he might be in the same position you were but doesn't have a choice.

To pay credit where it's due, he's probably the most reasonable guy over there and is (usually) a gentleman around here. I occasionally fall into the habit of bagging him along with KiR, but that's an injustice.

badboybubby is one of the nicest people I've met in my life, KiR would be lucky to be grouped together with him.

Fortunately, that won't be happening now, not that it was ever remotely likely.

I have no idea why Playboy stays 'over there', perhaps declaring his undying love for GM is not appropriate yet?
