Just to be the grammar Nazi, that should either be 'pillocky, grumpy twat', OR 'grumpy-twatted pillock', OR 'twatty, pillocky grump.' Or similar, but not 'pillock, grumpy twat.' Just sayin'.Playboy wrote:PottyMouth is growing on me, good use of language thereSamouth wrote: You stupid pillock, grumpy twat.

I don't agree, he used a comma to separate his excellent insults. Grammatically correct I think. I just think he should have added a ferret fucker to round it all off.StroppyChops wrote:Just to be the grammar Nazi, that should either be 'pillocky, grumpy twat', OR 'grumpy-twatted pillock', OR 'twatty, pillocky grump.' I have no idea how promotion works in the Cambodian hospitality industry, but in the US it is always from within. So I agree with Cam on that point, but this hardly excuses paying anyone such a low salary. If we are comparing things to the west, then we should also acknowledge that hotel workers almost never earn minimum, even for the probationary period and earn more than unskilled physical labor. Yet, Samouth worked for one of the nicest hotels in Cambodia and was paid less than small boutiques pay here and even physical laborers, like the garment workers.
There is no excuse to ever pay anyone such a low salary, especially since it is not entirely "unskilled" - he probably needed to speak English to get the job. He used that same skill to land a different job paying 9x more.
Also, as someone who has spent many 10 hour shifts standing, I can tell you it fucks up your back. There is absolutely no need for it when the lobby is empty. Hotels have cameras everywhere, so you can see when people are coming before they enter, or just stand as they enter. What difference does it make?

'Pillock' in the original was placed as a noun, so noun comma adjective noun is not really correct. Morphing it into an adjective, i.e. 'pillocky', is technically more correct for this structure. Alternatively, the addition of a second pronoun to indicate a clever sequence of insults, i.e. 'you stupid pillock, you grumpy twat', rather than a poorly compounded single insult is also appropriate.juansweetpotato wrote:I don't agree, he used a comma to separate his excellent insults. Your a pedant but quite correct. I actually think language has leeway in being creative on media such as fora. To turn pillock into pillocky is just losing the resonance of the original insult. Insults are in part based on the way they sound. Cunt. Piss. or Pish in Scotland, Wank-ker etc. Swear words should surely be given the greatest leeway of all as they are 'slang terms usually. Also quite common to drop the pronoun. That made it more colloquial to me. maybe something like Irvine Welsh would write.

I tend not to go all grammer Nazi, over comments written by people for whom English is a second language.
It was still a good, run on, insult for a nonnative speaker

By your reasoning, it was the OP who excused the low pay by accepting the job.MekongMouse wrote:I have no idea how promotion works in the Cambodian hospitality industry, but in the US it is always from within.
