Things that make your teeth grind

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Agreed, that statement is empty. I mean, what isn't better than Apple (iOS)?

LOL! To be fair their 'entertainment and communication' products were better in that they 'just worked' for a long while, but they've certainly lost any edge over the past two years with Android taking a market share. I've always thought that on bang-for-buck value Apple has had to market to the "you get that only really smart people buy our much more expensive product, right?" consumerist.

I don't know about all that. In the infancy of smart phones I found my Symbian OS Nokia N97 to be far superior to the iPhone at the time.
Back then the "smart" people all used blackberry. I thought iPhones were for the tech illiterate and people that enjoyed the restrictions of a closed market.

The " I must be right about everything, because I have lived in PP since the Ark was grounded here "

Don't misunderstand me, I have chatted on and off line with many great and knowledgeable people, on a wide range of subjects but while they have spent **** years in PP, others have mooched about the world and potentially have a much broader range of experiential knowledge.

Yes, precisely. Those who were suckered in by the "you're smart enough to get how good our products are" marketing.

And the flipside of that, "You know nothing of this place because you have been here forever so you are just a jaded expat living in an expat bubble."

Used to hear that regularly from backpackers who had been here about 2 weeks trying to tell me how great it is to volunteer at orphanages and toss money at beggar children. Right up there with, "if you don't believe and support Somaly Mam it's because you must be a sex tourist pedophile with ulterior motives."

Personally I think I'll get physical with anyone who pulls this line on me - it gets thrown around a little too loosely in this country, and it's the lowest insult that can be given another human being, IMO.

I'm still trying to work out an appropriate response to those white female voluntourists that sniff haughtily at me when Mrs Stroppy and I are out together, and give me that up and down appraisal and clear gutter judgement if I happen to be walking the street in broad daylight on my own. I know this chestnut comes up from time to time, but not yet seen a good take-down response for it. Suggestions, anyone?

Agreed, it totally cuts both ways, so the only to judge, is to listen to what people have to say, regardless of them being here 2 months or 2 decades. Listen to people as individuals and judge on their individual merits.
