There's a Rat in my Hotel Room, What'm I Gonna Do ???

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. There is a product called Contrapest, that rats love to eat, and sends the females into early menopause and the males sperm can't reproduce, so they eventually die off naturally.
That should be everywhere, but no doubt the tree-huggers got up in arms and would rather the disease-carrying rodents had a voice.

I doubt you have many years of experience here. Rats are common in big cities. Using toxins against predators will only lead to more trouble later. The best way to keep rodents out of your home is to have a clean environment. Tie up your garbage bags and take them out regularly. Do not leave anything edible in the sink overnight, dirty plates, etc. It all depends on personal hygiene and proper systematization.

Still, running a street-level restaurant here poses significant rodent-welfare challenges, and rest assured that only the bravest of rats would dare fog their faces when the place is packed with customers.

Big 'un came right on up my bedroom toilet back in 2010 while I was in my room. I was terrified and I'm still traumatized into watching out below to this day.
That place was on the third floor, he was knackered and we managed to get him to go back from where he came as I recall.

Traumatized by seeing a rat , what a sheltered life you must have, out in the province rats are everywhere and snakes are a nearly daily experience.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Finger toes taste so good, give him some time, he'll be back.

Whilst in a hotel in Vinh I was awoken at about 4am by something on my face that felt heavy. I jerked up and heard a loud thud on the floor. I turned the lights on and, yup, it was a rat the size of my forearm. Good times.

I saw this from TV so this must be a truth. Rat is basically a bat without wings, so you can do it send it is merry way.

Train it.
Rats are extremely intelligent.
I once taught one juggling small styro balls.
And wild house mice will eat from your hand too, if your patient enough.

There's always a lot of talk about rodents being bad cause they brought the pest etc
And that's certainly true. I just don't see them as mere vermin.

Domestic rats make great pets I found. Smart as you say. When my daughter was young, we had 2 female rats and then 2 males. Unfortunately, they only have a lifespan of around 3 yrs but on the flipside you're not taking on a 15 yr responsibility as you would with a dog or cat.
