wash to where? it has to end up somewhereUsername Taken wrote:Yeah, that's all very nice for some provincial folk, but what we need is torrential rain in Phnom Penh to wash all the trash off the streets.

Any deficit in "side" by an American will be automatically replenished by the surfeit of this commodity in the national character.Sorry Nemo, I let the side down again.
QED, chap.
For those new in the region, we are unlikely to see any significant rainfall until about this time in May.
The peasantry are undoubtedly suffering from this prolonged and uncharacteristic drought.
I imagine there will be new records for death by lightning strike when the normal weather pattern returns.
Cambodia is particularly distinguished in this form of death in global terms.

Re: There is a Cloud!
No clouds in Kampot apparently. They are trucking in drinking water for some inhabitants - probably better than drinking the local water anyway - but it's a sign that this could be a very hard year for some areas in Cambodia.
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/w ... ked-kampotKampot town officials yesterday distributed drinking water to 500 families from Andong Khmer commune, whose other water supplies have been completely cut off by drought.
Provincial police chief Moa Chan Makthurith said that while Kampot has been able to deal with the drought for the past few months, the shortage has escalated in recent weeks, leading local residents to request immediate assistance from the government. Authorities trucked the water in from other parts of the country.
“The wells, the ponds and other water sources are dry now,” he said. “Now, they really have no water to use at all.”
Sem Pheakdy, a resident of Andong Khmer, confirmed the increasingly dire situation. “Since April [began] . . . we have not had water at all,” he said.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has called this the worst drought in 50 years, affecting at least 88 communes and tens of thousands of families nationwide.
The shortage will likely persist for at least another month – the ministry expects the rainy season not to arrive until June...

The 2016 water shortages are worse than usual :

The provincial capital of Banteay Meanchey, Sisophon, could be dry within 10 days, leaving tens of thousands of residents without clean water, according to the province’s governor, who has called on the private and NGOs to help...
Local media reports indicate water shortages are not limited to Banteay Meanchey. Communes in Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Mondulkiri, Siem Reap (including Siem Reap town), Preah Vihear, Battambang, Oddar Meanchey and Pailin (including Pailin town) are all reportedly experiencing water shortages...

So now when you hear that the family buffalo is "sick", it could be true...A hundred military trucks have been readied to transport water to drought-hit provinces, where hundreds of livestock deaths have been reported this month amid scorching heat...
Thirty of the trucks will be sent to Banteay Meanchey province, 30 to Oddar Meanchey and the remaining 40 to Battambang, General Socheat said, adding that each truck can carry 4,000 to 6,000 liters of water.
https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/mili ... se-111871/In Stung Treng province, Siem Pang district governor Si Suon said 236 buffaloes and 65 cows had died this month from a lack of water and grass.

Fingers crossed.
First came the wind squalls.
Then the clouds came over.
Now there's lightning to the East and South.
I expect to hear the thunder before to long.

Re: There is a Cloud!
in other news, an enormous storm approached, evaporated over PP and reintensified to the west just now
http://www.cambodiameteo.com/slideshow?menu=117&lang=en
would have been 100 mm in it before and after it passed over . I am sure the incoming one 10 km to our east will do the same.
they always do.
