The Truth About Xpat Deaths in Cambodia
So many, many xpat deaths since I have been living here in Cambodia. Wake up dead drowned by their own vomit, died passed out on the foot of the stairs, found dead on the street, or discovered DOA in the back of a tuk-tuk.
Heart attack is the often stated reason. The apologists prefer that 'it was a bad translation' and that what they meant was in fact heart stopped'. Funny thing is, i'm always waiting for their continued technical explanation that informs us all that when one dies, one's heart stops.
I reckon a lot of them are drug related deaths. Bad deals from malicious punters handing out the super strong stuff with no warnings, or just some dodgy cunt doing the Pharmaceutical 'cut'. Some say intentional poisonings, to get people back or rob them. I can't imagine a dead guy saying 'Hey! he stole my laptop and camera too!' .
H when C was asked for, Farma when H was asked for, or just 'overdoing' it on holiday when the pills can be bought for 10c each in a chemists shop. What do you think are the main causes for all the 'sudden' deaths in Cambodia?
I would like to add that in many African countries poisoning is a very common way to die. I have been told many times ,most victims are usually spiked in bars and clubs by people who are either intent on robbing them or have a gridge to settle. I have far too many of these kinds of stories to tell, even a personal one where myself and my girlfriend became the victims. Rat poison I believe.
The African's always put it down to poverty and jealousy. I wonder if this could also be true in Cambodia? Do Cambodians have a potential for being jealous?
If all the sudden deaths are simply OD's of opiates, or poisonings, surely it would be very easy to test for these things? Or do you think they wouldn't bother? and if so what could be the possible reasons? .
Anyway , as I said, I have heard a lot of stories since living here and was wondering your take on things.

Re: The Truth About Xpat Deaths in Cambodia
i had a really terrible backache and took some oxy.
started my usual maintenance drinking about 5
back hurt bad- took another one.
then it all kicked in.
kinda came to about 05.30- looked at the pill card- man i had taken a bunch.
didn't remeber taking any past the 2nd one.
respiration severely repressed.
start walking and force the water down.
i nearly went out by being stupid.
who would spend money on investigating the cause?
dead is dead.

Good point and one that I thought I'd let someone else make, which you just did beautifully. Access to strong drugs and booze with nay common sense or lack of info. Glad you survived. As did the guy I helped carry out from a guest house a couple of months ago. Did the doctor/ pharmacy tell you to be careful and not to drink with them when you bought the pills?frank lee bent wrote:i had a realy terrible backache and took some oxy.

So, what do you think the percentages are between the fool and the victim of another's hand?

I think an investigation into the deaths on Koh Rong and the hangings in Sinville would turn up something extremely interesting.

Tell us your thoughts Vlad. I'd be interested in knowing what they are.vladimir wrote:I think an investigation into the deaths on Koh Rong and the hangings in Sinville would turn up something extremely interesting.

Re: The Truth About Xpat Deaths in Cambodia
i think overwhelmingly self inflicted. i dothink a lot of mugs get drugged on the beach down here in sv though.
some die- some survive- you hear the stories verbally all the time- sometimes on fb.
surviving victims are hesitant to disclose from embarrassment.
other ones- well - they can't talk can they?
Vlad makes a great point- murder is not called murder around here always.
maybe wacky jackie and jamie lambo will chime in because i think sihanoukville has a high disproportion of this kind of stuff.
they both know the place better than me.
I don''t get out much LOL.

Re: The Truth About Xpat Deaths in Cambodia
Sorry, on reflection my post did come across a little harsh, which I didn't mean it to be apart from expressing frustration. I edited it with a question for you. We all make mistakes, but in Cambodia they can often be lethal. So who does Vlad think is doing the murdering? Police? Tuk-tuk mafia? SK?frank lee bent wrote: I don''t get out much LOL.
