Sorry I need to write a retraction. I'm pretty sure you all must have recognized my mistake , but just in case you didn't.
I wrongly attributed FLB's excellent post to the Grinch. Good input btw, I feel I have a better handle on it now.
Still waiting for LTO and LL's contrib, or are they all done with me now? :stir:

The "heart attack" thing is in many cases just a euphemism for "we haven't got a fucking clue". Years ago a lot of unexplained deaths were put down to "dizziness", so I suppose it's an improvement. I'd guess that many of the deaths are down to the "kid in a candy store" syndrome like others have said. Many deaths could also be from conditions which could be treated but aren't due to poor medical care. There are quite a few older people who probably die before their time due to this.
There are also some more mysterious deaths -some could be murders but who knows?

The reputation of Hammer and Ice tend to scare occasional/rec users off.The tourists 1st choice rec drug down here is Ketamine ( except for alcohol and pot obviously). It's cheap,VERY available and not looked at as a "gutter" or "junkie" drug in the west. Ketamine is a very powerful horse tranquiliser. If it can put out a 500kg horse for hours, it can put a human out permanently, no trouble.

Ketamine is not a "horse tranquilizer", it's an anesthetic used for children and in emergency surgery, among other uses. It is also used as a veterinary anesthetic, not as a tranquilizer. Deaths from overdoses of it are almost unknown, it is more likely to cause accidents due to its debilitating effects.

I stand corrected on the " Horse tranquiliser" bit. Even though i did mean anesthetic and I'm pretty sure you knew that.
However, K definitely can kill you, particularly in conjunction with alcohol use. My point was that far and away the most popular rec drug of choice down here, at the moment, is Ketamine and it is almost always used in conjunction with alcohol. It definitely HAS killed people down here before and will again. And there deaths will most likely be attributed to "heart attack"

I think underlying it all is not paying enough attention to hydration. Ignoring water can kill you. Ice in beer does not count at hydration :P
