I traveled back to Australia mid March to ride out the pandemic but now I feel it would of been better to stay put in Cambodia I feel my freedom of choice has been totally thrown out the window, I'm growing more and more frustrated with a government that has the final say on MY life.

I think your hindsight is 20/20

Unfortunately governments across the world are authoritarian in nature and will use the coronavirus to increase their powers over people. The days when you could show up in Vietnam from England and get a visa on arrival are gone - probably forever. Governments love control and covid is a great way of smuggling in all sorts of restrictions that they can justify with "it is for your own good."

Glad to be middle aged and I got to be a young man in a period of awesome social freedoms let put it that way.

I was encouraged back from Indonesia in March of what was to be the start of six months in the region enjoying travel, writing and photography - I now wish I'd stayed put in Indo. There's no real indication as to when Australians are going to be allowed to fly internationally other than the occasional whispers of a travel bubble being established between Australia and new Zealand which isn't likely for months and doesn't suit my needs at all. At this stage I can't see returning to SEA as an Australian until maybe the the new year which is frustrating to say the least.

My other option is to travel on my British passport to get into SEA when things start to open up which is what I envisage will be doing, but until then I'm stuck like many others. Of course I understand the reasons for restriction of movement, but it doesn't help alleviate the frustration of the wait, and not having any date to work with for a possible departure annoys me more than I thought it would.

I don't feel the government should be lambasted for restricting Australians leaving Oz as it's the right action in these circumstances, I believe. However, it doesn't get any easier to wait it out the longer it goes on, and I think we've got quite some way to go yet - I hope I'm wrong.

Two thoughts here...

In Cambodia your movement would have been limited just the same.

I think it’s a bit pathetic to run back to the safety of your home country and then start complaining if it lasts longer than you want.

I was faced with the choice and chose to stay in Cambodia and the restrictions on movement are not the same at all. I am riding a moto all over the country. There are no and never were any restrictions here except for four days when you could not leave your province. Australians had much less freedom of movement

Not really, movement is barely limited here (if at all). Way more limiting in most western nations.

That being said, I agree that the OP should have just not been a little bitch and run to momma and poppa in the first place. Bit rich to run to free health care and paychecks and then complain here.

I only leave my apartment in Australia to buy food, from what I'm told by my friends in PP their movement isn't really restricted at all.
