SERIAL ROBBER IN PHNOM PENH

Hi guys, please be careful of the items you leave in lockers in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In the hostels they recommend you leave valuables in lockers because the risk of bag-snatching on the street is high.

I'm in Phnom Penh, and on Wednesday 11th my locker in the hostel dorm was broken into by a guy called [NAME REMOVED] . He pretended to be asleep in the dorm when we checked in at 5pm and had checked out by the time we came back from dinner at 8.30pm. He used a hammer, screwdriver and knife to break the locker door and break my padlock on my rucksack. He stole my iPad and mine & my boyfriend's passports as well as my entire handbag and other belongings.

I'm posting because when we filed a police report, we found out that there have been other reports of the same guy stealing similar things around Phnom Penh (this happened in the area around street 178, reported to police on street 184). It seems like he is going round dorm hostels stealing people's belongings and he could be dangerous. I'm not even sure if that's his real name, but that is the name he checked in under at the hostel where it happened.

I've just seen that someone else has posted about the same guy too. Please be careful with your belongings - especially your passports!!! Safe travels everyone and enjoy SE Asia x

...His blood is in my rucksack. I found the bandage he was wearing in my rucksack. So it's covered in his DNA. Only the Cambodian police can't be bothered to investigate it. I'm going to speak to the police in the UK about it when I get home. Hopefully they will be able to help. If not I just wanted others to be aware because he has completely ruined my trip and I'm sure he's ruined others' trips too.
Most of the time i travel, i always stayed in dorm room and i always felt so safe to stay with white people (backpackers). I always thought that they will never steal all my belongings. i kept my phone and wallet in my backpack. I think i have to be more careful when travelling.

Loved the part about DNA on the bandaid. Comedy gold. 5/5 would read again.

Best part was how they mentioned the street but didn't name the hotel. I didn't know 178 had dorms, now I'm curious. Maybe I'll bring my screwdriver.

Has that guy been found already? I saw a dude that looked suspiciously much like him at the "Green Wall" at lakeside (if he's really such a scumbag as the accusations suggest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was in that area). But then again, it could've been a coincidence. Is there any info about his height?

I wouldn't have done anything anyway though. Even if I knew for a fact that he was that guy. He sounds like trouble and I don't feel like paying the police for showing up, doing a quick check and making an arrest (y'know. Doing their goddamn job I mean) or get into a physical confrontation with someone who really hasn't done me any wrong.

BTW.: Complete sidenote, but I don't actually live at fucking lakeside (which has been suggested before). I just go there a lot. It was the firsft place where I made some lasting contacts and friends in this country, that's why I go there ever so often.

Jeez Jacket, you do know that you're asking for trouble, telling everyone that you hang out at lakeside.

I don't live there either, but I don't feel the need to say so.

I just saw that! I doubt he'd have much luck suing some random backpackers or guesthouse owners in Cambodia.

Anyways, to help the poor guy out I'll obviously be deleting his name and any images from this thread.

Strange indeed, either way.

Supposedly they have caught the guy the actually was doing the crime and they have posted his name and stuff. I bet he has a Facebook too, LoL.
