Re: Oh the horror....
I think we should all chip in to support the ISPP teachers.

The reaction was not what she hoped for! There's a big reality check needed!

Re: Oh the horror....
I am sorry, but at first I wanted to call this lady bad words. Then I thought about a few teachers I know over at ISPP and the fact that they could be making a lot more back home. So yes, if you are qualified enough to teach at ISPP, and you do have to have A LOT more than a B.A in Education to work there, you should expect compensation equal to the lifestyle you could live doing that job back home.
So yes, being able to go home once per year and see your family is a big deal, especially when it was provided for in the past. Sure, shit happens, but come on. So if your kid went to ISPP for 20-25k$ per year, wouldn't you want their teacher's being top notch and happy... not pissed off and disgruntled. In all honestly, they are one of the few groups of teachers here that could say "Fuck you, I have options... great ones, all over the globe"
Sorry, but every TRUE international school I have came across from Thailand to Cambodia to Vietnam has all offered flights back home after completion of contract.
Shit, most of the backpacker TEFL teachers in China get a round trip flight after their 1 year contract.
Typically, my ass would take any opportunity to flame this chick, but I kind of understand where she is coming from. She doesn't have a CELTA... she is an actual highly qualified teacher and deserved to be treated and compensated as such.
Don't hate on the Jones or Smith family next door to you just because they are doing a little bit better. That is just petty and lacks class.
Mrs. Stroppy, none of this above is directed personally at you. You just brought up the topic. Cheers.

Understand what you are saying completely, and yes I know none of it is aimed at me. But too call the removal of that entitlement "degrading and humiliating" is taking things too far in my opinion.

I agree 110% with you on her choice of words. I think " This is F'ed up" would have been much better in context.Mrs Stroppy wrote:Understand what you are saying completely, and yes I know none of it is assumed at me. I don't think anyone was degraded or humilated.
To me, humiliation and degradation occur when I see a tuk tuk driver having to piss against a wall in the middle of a busy city. Yeah, her wording was a bit dramatic... now I am kinda wanting to call her bad words again. bitch. i kid.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

Re: Oh the horror....
Agreed, the "humiliating and degrading" bit sounds like the school has breached the Universal declaration of Human Rights 1948. Doesn't help their case IMO.
Maybe they should go on strike for better working conditions. or join the garment workers...
Or just go somewhere else where the contracts are more generous, and tough titty for the ISPP. I presume that present contracts will be honoured, so just don't renew and move on.

Re: Oh the horror....
For it to be humiliating and degrading I'd expect it to be more like 2 teachers, 1 cup being written into the contact.
