The History Channel

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The History Channel

Post by flying chicken »

I am a documentary kind of guy. I ditched Discovery and became an avid watcher of the History channel. I learned a lot of new things from this channel and take it at face value too. But I recently learned that one of their biggest hits Pawn Stars are scripted and sometime staged, but I still like it...it cracks me up whenever Rick and his son Big Hass pulled the "We'll still have to pay to get it framed, I'll give you 20 bucks." And Rick Restoration esp with that newly employed fast talking geeky painter dude.

Being a dedicated fan, I even emailed and posted on their FB page to get rid of the '10 things you dont know about Malaysia' and 'Swamp People.' I just recently finished watching the World Wars 3 days marathon; fascinating stuff and the World War 2 from Space too. Anyway, for those who watched it -- are they historically accurate?

Are you serious? You couldn't tell from the 1st 30 micro-seconds of "Pawn Stars", "The Pickers", etc. (all the History fake reality stuff) that every single second is scripted? Plus they have a crew of at least 8 people there as well. In fact, the actual "stars" are "real" and the represented activities are "somewhat like reality" but...it is all massaged and 1000% controlled.

As much as I love seeing the historical items, what their value is and the characters who are selling the stuff I despise the hokey goofy bullshit horseplay that is so obviously fake and very badly acted. It's painful to watch sometimes - especially the awful "Rick's Restoration" embarrassing banter that's poorly written and they say "awesome" 467 times an episode. Plus they "ruin" some cool old objects by making them too shiny and new. Pure crap show.

I used to hate the History Channel but I'm over it now. It's all in the past.

I just watch it for amusement i.e. Pawn Stars, Rick Restoration, Counting Cars and sometimes the Pickers. But Storage Wars should be aired on Nickelodeon "this is 30 bucks, this is an easy 300 bucks" totally exaggerating the shitty items in the garage where they won the bid. Surprisingly though, it attracts a lot of viewers, even the Discovery copied it too.

Yeah I even cringed sending that one.

As for being Vlad's sock puppet, I think he has more respect for himself than sending that toss.

Please, big wonderful man in black, tell us punters that you're kidding. Duck Fucks? That is the worst show ever made - and not that very very bad to be even a little cool. Jesus would not approve of that dross for a series...Grandpa is a bigot, racist and fool....

Orange on the other hand is a worthy effort...as are sooo many others...Breaking Bad, Wire, Sopranos, Homeland, Ray Donovan, Mad Men, Deadwood, Weeds and on and on...

I thought that you were an ex-former-previous-recovering bogan anyway?
