The great Marmite famine of 2020

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. The great Marmite famine of 2020

Post by xandreu »

I think if there's one thing 2020 will be remembered for, it will be the Great Khmer Marmite famine. I haven't been able to get hold of any for months now. I'm not sure why. Anyone would think there has been some sort of disruption in global food supply chains or something.

And before anyone even mentions that obnoxious, repugnant, supposed 'alternative', Vegemite, yes. I did have the misfortune of buying it in the belief that it might serve as an alternative until things get back to normal, but to be frank, and no offence to my Aussie friends but to compare that with Marmite it a bit like comparing Scarlett Johansson to a scar-riddled gap-toothed crack whore.

Anyway, back to the point - anyone seen any Marmite floating around PP lately?

Are you referring to that foul tasting UK Marmite, or the superior Kiwi Marmite?

If you're referring to UK Marmite, my wife mistakenly purchased some from Super Duper recently for the kids as they like Vegemite and Kiwi Marmite, the kids spat it out which is very unlike them they normally eat everything

I've still got a big jar of Marmite in the cupboard that's still half-full as I rarely eat it. A mate brought it from NZ in 2006, and it has a May 2014 expiry date but that stuff never goes bad. Offers? :D

I see a business opportunity....

If I ever manage to return, I could probably manage a few jars of basic staples, like Marmite, English Mustard.

I'll supply a Nigerian enterprise hotline number shortly to arrange.

Thanks xandreu,no offense taken, but really marmite, for f**k sakes. Vegemite is one of the super foods of the world, I can stomach promite at a pinch, BUT marmite is like diesel and lighter fluid all mixed up together. Your going to have to harden up I'm afraid. Nothing better than a hot crumpet, with lots of BUTTER and vegemite 😉😋

Growing up eating either of them brands must have been hard. Mama loved me and never made me eat such incredible stuff. Is there anything more useless in world?

Tomorrow we have to go to the Bayon and Thai Hout supermarkets that are near the train station. I have seen Marmite at Thai Hout in the past but will check both for current stocks.

I got a large jar about a month ago in the Thai Hout that’s just north of the junction with MST on 63 (not the BKK1 store)
