The grass is never greener: As Phnom Penh booms, green spaces are cut back

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Like many Asian cities today, PP is another example of a city that was only planned for a certain population size naturally failing at non planned growth rates.

Yea, it's pretty depressing. Even the Pochentong Children's Park on the way to the airport, not a big place at best anyway, is having some sort of apartment building built on it.
It's all a-okay though! It's going to have a small courtyard in the middle with some shops on the ground floor!

The powers that be are waiting for an NGO to pay them off, pay off existing land owners, and then build and maintain the parks for them.

They wait a while in a flooding city, and then the Japanese come and build a drainage system. And now the Japanese have come and build an even more extensive drainage system for the expanding city.

They wait a while while their people get bitten by mosquitos and then the Australians provide.

Ditto with water purification, medical care, etc.

The Khmer rulers are smart. Plus they can fly to foreign countries whenever they tire of Cambodia. Or just build their own slice or not Cambodia where they live.

I’m starting to sound like Explorer..

... must try to stay positive.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I would say there wasn't any proper city planning at all.

Yes no plan and no understanding of the concept of debt.

How are they smart? I'd really like to know how always being somebody's bitch is "smart"?
