Mind you, back then the shoestring travellers were really 'kineow', today travellers throw their cash about. That's the problem. From Kineow, to crazy mad. If only they followed the 'middle path'phuketrichard wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2017 3:01 pm Even backpackers leave $$$ and locals 100% benefited (who else but locals would have) ? Plus the travlers introduced them to a world they had never even imagined.
Phuket and Samui were built for backpackers back in the late 70's early 80's. Now look at them

if you work for someone you just need a TRN and the company pays your tax
if you are self employed you need an ABN and you pay your own tax at the end of the tax year

I don't really get your comparison. Surely an average wage for a building worker must be $2000 or more now, while bungalows on the beach can still be got for $20 or less?willyhilly wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 5:47 pm Thai bungalows on beaches for a dollar or two a night.
An Australian wage for a building worker was about $200 in 1976 so two dollars was pretty cheap.
Try 8000 /10000 on ABN or 5000 minimum cleared on TFN.
You are so full of crap with numbers like that. Piss off!

On abn these guys are on 40 an hour and doing 60 hour weeks here in WA that's 2400 a week before tax
the brickies in Perth on $40 an hour are earning $8000 a month, and thats if they work every work day, which in the building trade rarely happens due to weather etc

TFN = Tax File Number.
If self-employed you don't pay at the end of the year. You pay in advance.

same as in england, if your self employed and getting paid, you dont have to pay your tax until you get your tax return papers to fill in, if you pay in advance, you get a tax rebate, if you dont, you pay with your tax return
