Mate, I just came down off office buildings, I've worked mining and residential construction too.saigonjackpot wrote:2000?John Bingham wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:13 pmI'm not saying things weren't cheaper then, I'm certain they were, but in relative value I'm not at all sure. I don't really get your comparison. Surely an average wage for a building worker must be $2000 or more now, while bungalows on the beach can still be got for $20 or less?willyhilly wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 5:47 pm Thai bungalows on beaches for a dollar or two a night.
An Australian wage for a building worker was about $200 in 1976 so two dollars was pretty cheap.
Try 8000 /10000 on ABN or 5000 minimum cleared on TFN.
You are so full of crap with numbers like that. Piss off!

It's a pretty narrow view of life when some-one determines the '' good old days '' as the period in their life when everything was cheap.

Re: The good old days
Well mate the good days in PP I remember number nine guest house I got pissed all week at spaghetti and Khmer amok every day and my bill was only 80$ plus the Khmer women hanging round were hot and never asked for a dime.
Nowadays Khmer women don't hang around and play pool at the cheap guest houses it's changed for the worse like Thailand it's strictly business and 50 $ a short time is a joke.
ST in Perth is 100 .

Re: The good old days
One thing is true. As Asia becomes more modern changes are occurring, and not always for the best for travellers. Whilst i remember the better times of Snookie, i must also think that maybe things are getting better moreso for a locals point of view. Cambodia isn't there for tourists, but for the local people.
Think of Thailand, when it was cheap. Back then shoestring travellers spent nothing, and the locals didn't benefit. It was a one sided story, back then.
The good old days may have been great for travellers, but not necessarily for locals.

Re: The good old days
Even backpackers leave $$$ and locals 100% benefited (who else but locals would have) ? Plus the travlers introduced them to a world they had never even imagined.shnoukieBRO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2017 1:58 pm One thing is true. Phuket and Samui were built for backpackers back in the late 70's early 80's. Now look at them
same goes for snooky, kampot
