The French and Computers – a tragic relationship
Is it only me or is it a general truth that Frenchmen and computers don’t go together? When I lived in Cambodia I knew several French guys, and it was always, always the same: “Hey can I use your computer (or laptop)”? “Yes, please go on”. 2 minutes later the entire system was ruined. Ruined beyond repair – I had to reinstall the operating system.
2 days ago I had a visitor from Paris staying overnight at my house. Again: “Hey can I use your computer”? I already began to pray, but eventually I said yes (I’m an idiot you know).
Next morning after he had left I checked my machine – with brute force he pressed the start button into the computer. Machine damaged – repair costs: Euro 79
These guys are not only stupid but really disrespectful.
Question: Are there universities in France that teach them how to destroy a computer within 4 clicks, or how to switch on a computer with a sledge hammer ? And everybody is obliged to sign up for such a course.

You lend your computer to stranger !! Already I would not do this in a civilized country but in Cambodia that's asking for trouble.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:Is it only me or is it a general truth that Frenchmen and computers don’t go together? Did you at least used a guest account ? Hard to damage a computer using one of those, well unless you use brute force of course ...

Because you’ve mentioned it – if you grant somebody access to your computer you expect honesty and respect, but you can’t expect that of a Frenchman.
The first thing they always try to do is changing the system language to French. If we can’t do that because we are on a guest account, we consequently have to get administrative privileges or root access. On Windows they need at least a CD to break the codes, but on Ubuntu it’s a child’s play – they march right through within 2 minutes.

Yes I did not see any mention of your guest been competent with computer What the problem of having a guest account , that why there is a guest account. What would they want to do with your computer that is so current that you need to have administrator privilege AND not mention it to the one you borrow the computer from ?
Just out of curiosity where do you live ? I have trouble picturing someone use to mingle with the cambodian expat community being so trusting with relative stranger.

Yes guest account to avoid thing like the guest changing the language of the operating system. Which of course is a perfectly normal thing to do if somebody lend you a computer for a short time.
Just to be clear you lend you laptop to foreign stranger (foreign to you I mean) which you trust without knowing them and who are both incompetent with computer but able to change the language of the operating system by cracking administrator privilege on Ubuntu ?
Just admit the truth, you were drunk or the one asking has big boob and forgot to mention that she also had a boyfriend until you lend your laptop ? I am right ?

Just because somebody is from a different country from you ...
doesn't mean then you can't let them use your computer, does it ?
Maybe only letting people that you trust use your computer would be a better idea.

I didn't say that. You have inferred that. All I have said is that Frenchmen are irresponsible, egotistic, homicidal assholes when it comes to computers.Anchor Moy wrote:Just because somebody is from a different country from you ...
