The Dangers of Cambodia's "Ambulance Escort Motos"

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A young man, who was a volunteer riding a motorbike to facilitate traffic for ambulances to transport patients to the hospital, was killed in a traffic accident at around 5 pm on November 16, 2020 at the intersection of National Road No. 1 in Tuol Ta Chan Village, Sangkat Prek. Eang Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh.

According to a friend of the victim, 21-year-old Chak Ti, a private security guard, was speeding on a motorcycle to facilitate the traffic of an ambulance from the province to Phnom Penh when he suddenly collided with a black Highlander car, causing the motorcycle to fall along the road for several meters. The volunteer landed on his head and died after being taken to a referral hospital. RIP.

In connection with the motorbike driving before the ambulance, the victim's friends, a group of volunteers, said that they call each other to ride a motorcycle in front of the ambulance to facilitate traffic; they are only doing this to be helpful for the ambulances and they are not concerned with making money.

However, their actions were also called in question by the traffic police because they are putting themselves and other people at risk.
The motorbike escorts drive dangerously. And if we see their driving in the video, it is even more scary.

I only seem to have noticed them i. the past 6 to 12 months and dont recall them before that. Having seen how they ride and knowing what scant regard most car drivers have for motos everytime I have seen them I was left thinking they were in extreme danger.

RIP for the unfortunate young guy

Interesting, I've seen a few of these now (sometimes wearing a reflective vest). It's a new development so I assumed it was either family members of the person in the ambulance, or a new sort of initiative by the hospitals. Sad ending indeed and not necessary obviously.

I have noticed many people following ambulances to get to their destination quicker. A bit strange, this.

I used to tailgate the VIP motorcades to get a quick ride through town when I drove past the airport to/from work, although I usually chickened out when they started driving head on in to traffic on the wrong side of the road.

Take a different and altogether much quieter route now :)

If the selfish cunts blocking ambulances perhaps didn't block ambulances, there wouldn't be any need for bike escorts.

I ever encountered them these motorbikes...
They are reckless and disregard all traffic rules...
Not only do they endanger themselves but others much more as well...

I was at traffic intersection and green light in flavor of me and the rest of the cars and one motor bike just block your way while ambulance stuck behind cars which they couldn't move because of red light... How stupid can they be?

Another time was, I was driving as normal and suddenly I saw two motor bikes driving so close to me on both sides while I couldn't see any ambulance behind me... Then 1min later saw the ambulance behind and of course I gave way to ambulance and not to these bikers... They were reckless and as if they own the road and my car...

In the UK there’s a few motorcycle blood bank charities. Most of the members are polite non Dads Army types but a fair few think they are police cops CHIPS and have blue lights and sirens, which is illegal unless it’s being ridden by an authorised rider - is ex cop, and they’re a menace.

RIP to the young lad.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

Well at least they are in front of an ambulance, if they crash and burn the ambulance should at least pick them up and take them wherever they need to go
