The Countries Polluting The Oceans The Most

A team of researchers in the United States and Australia led by Jenna Jambeck, an environmental engineer at the University of Georgia, analyzed plastic waste levels in the world's oceans. They found that China and Indonesia are the top sources of plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish clogging up global sea lanes. Together, both nations account for more than a third of plastic detritus in global waters, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

In 2010, 8.8 million metric tons of mismanaged plastic waste in the ocean was traced back to China while 3.2 million metric tons came from Indonesia. The United States is also guilty of polluting oceans with plastic, but at a much lower level than China. Annually, 0.3 million metric tons of waterborne plastic garbage comes from the United States.

yeah all good and all but texas is 268k sq miles big and the pacific is 63 sq million miles big!

you could put 10 texas’s In it and youd not even see them!

Yep. I'm also amused by the banning of single-use plastic bags in Queensland last month. First thing we did was buy some plastic rubbish bags to replace the ones we were using after bringing home our groceries in them. Net result, same output of plastic waste - but now we buy the bags. A clear demonstration of how big business lobby governments and get what they want. Tell me again how this is helping... Now when you go to Coles or Woolworths, you have to bring your own plastic bags or buy them for 15c each! Not only do you have to do this, if you want to get through quickly, you need to scan, bag and pay all on your lonesome too, as the express-lanes are frequently not staffed, and multiple customers are waiting at the reduced number of manned checkouts available.

Just yesterday, I watched as a tourist tried to understand the no bag policy at Coles, refusing to purchase a plastic bag for 15c and walking out carrying his items. Welcome to Australia!

Won't be long and they'll find something else to hoodwink/brainwash the public here with.
