The Comedy Club Cambodia #32

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It is now the Year of the Monkey, so lets enter it in appropriately cheeky fashion with a night of hilarity at Show Box on Friday February 19.
And what a line up we have for you!
‘Rollicking good’ UK comedienne JoJo Smith is flying in to smash it as our headliner, with Canadian stand up (and youtube sensation) Daniel-Ryan Spaulding providing main support and other very special guests.
The night is being brought to you by the region’s best cider makers Bruntys, as well as premier bus company Giant Ibis, the exquisite House Boutique hotel and the scrumptious sandwiches of Buffalo Sister.
Tickets are the standard ridiculously low price of $5, with start time set for 8:30pm.

The Lo-down on JoJo
In the last two decades JoJo has gone from open spot to late night TV personality, from global fame on the Internet to global comedy performer.
Her international tours have included Europe, South Africa, Australia, China and the UAE, and her strong views had her proclaimed a feminist icon in Cape Town, while the laid-back Aussies wondered what had hit them. Safe to say she made quite an impact!
During the 40-odd episodes of British TV show Funny Business that JoJo wrote and presented she made a name for herself as a chat show host of the old school. Fifteen years as a newspaper journalist taught her you get more out of someone if you shut up. Her guests included comedians Lee Evans, Jo Brand and Rich Hall.
A sold-out 20-date tour as support for Craig Charles quickly got her used to playing 1,000+ seater venues, and she has consolidated her success as a stand-up by regularly topping the bills at venues all over the UK.
She was the first comic to encore on a Jongleurs open spot, and is now one of their most popular comedians.
For Comic Relief she performed live on the Internet, and is apparently massive in Romania. She also appeared at the London Palladium in aid of the striking Liverpool Dockers
Recently, she performed her first ever one-hour show at the Sheffield Last Laugh Comedy Festival. Candid as ever, she freely admits that fear has prevented her up until now.
Liberated by an audience who’d come just to see her, she’s now got the bug and 2016 will see her perform it across Southeast Asia, and for the first time doing a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
By then she'll be 55 years old and have 23 years’ stand-up experience under her belt. Ironically she’ll also be eligible for all the best newcomer awards at the Fringe.

“JoJo Smith. Mad, bad and funny” THE GUARDIAN
“A manic force, leading where male stand-ups fear to tread” SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
“JoJo Smith is a rollicking good stand-up, but she is also so blue she makes Jo Brand look like one of the nuns in The Sound of Music” THE INDEPENDENT

Speaking of Spaulding
Daniel-Ryan Spaulding is a world-traveling comedian, gigging in over 40 countries to date.
Described by Huffington Post as “brilliantly subversive”, his comedy explores culture, identity, sexuality, stereotypes and personal confessions.
He hit viral fame with his youtube video “If Gay Guys Said the Shit Straight People Say”, not past 2 million views!
His youtube videos have been spotlighted on Huffington Post, College Humor, Boing Boing, Cosmopolitan, and UpWorthy.
As a true citizen of the world, he has a diverse connection to many countries. He lived in Norway for 2 years, and developed “Norgesveen”, a show about Norwegian culture from an outsider’s perspective. He toured the show to 15 cities, with the viral video “Shit Expats Say in Norway” catapulting him to mini-stardom in Norway’s international community.
He is notably one of the first openly-gay comedians to tour throughout most of Eastern Europe and, as a dual citizen of Canada and Croatia, he has performed throughout most of the Balkan countries.
Now based in Amsterdam, he works closes with the Dutch production company Badaboom on a variety of projects. He tours his new show “Red Lights & Rainbows” regularly in the Netherlands, and at comedy festivals throughout the world including Edinburgh Fringe last year.
