The Cambodia Daily Online Newspaper Now HIDES All News Articles Older Than 2 Weeks
I just noticed a few weeks ago that The Cambodia Daily has started hiding their news articles that are more than 2 weeks old, and it wasn't like that a while ago.
They've been hiding all articles from non-paying members after you read 5 within a month's time, but hiding all articles older than 2 weeks old is a new one.
You get this message if you try to access one of their articles older than 2 weeks:
"The Cambodia Daily Archives
Stories older than two weeks are part of The Cambodia Daily archive. Access to the archive requires a subscription. Log in"
There has always been a workaround for getting past the "5 article" limit by using an Incognito Browser Tab in Chrome, but does anyone know how to view news articles on Cambodia Daily that are older than 2 weeks? You'll get a karma point, LoL.
I have no issue with how they want to do things, it just seems they're the only Cambodian newspaper that hides articles from the public. And it's not like I can be too critical, as CEO started a Darknet Cambodia News forum which is also hidden from non-members, but that was just so we can post uncensored news without offending the delicate public. I also thought it would help cut down on emails from family and friends requesting we remove such articles when it's too brutal of a story, and I guess it did to an extent, but now we get even more emails from them, requesting access to the Darknet News forum. Can't please everyone.
Here is a screenshot from the Cambodia Daily saying to pay up:
And here's their prices for subscriptions, ranging from $2 a day for the ability to read unlimited articles from their archives, to $250 a year for unlimited access to their online archive and their printed newspaper delivered:

But that won't help of they've put a pay wall on older content.

Pressreader doesn't do the Cambodia Daily. They have the Post though and another five publications. I suggest everyone starts copying their whole articles and pasting them into a spoiler when referencing them.
See crook!!!

I am assuming that it's still going to be OK to post copies of news items on ''' News from the past '' without anyone being sued ?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

They have always been twats. I don't want to get into their extreme political bias which completely flies in the face of their "all news without fear or favor" motto.
Just in case anyone doesn't know, the Cambodia Daily is an NGO. This gives it a lot of tax-breaks and also allows it to reprint international articles from AP etc while
paying a fraction of what a real newspaper would have to. They also use a constant string of interns, basically this means that they have foreign graduates straight
out of school working for no pay. Back in the early days the paper had some great journalists working for it, now it just has immature sycophants.
The owner has been slow to adjust to the digital online age. Not so long ago (like 2011 rather than 1972) there were ads in the daily for a full set of back-issues, for only $15,000 or something.
Great. The only catch was that they weren't actual papers, or even digital files. They were on microfilm.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

You should really post a link if you're going to use their articles online like that.Duncan wrote:I am assuming that it's still going to be OK to post copies of news items on ''' News from the past '' without anyone being sued ?
