The Bright Side

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Victory Gardens are back
"Everyone who can seems to be “victory gardening”—channeling our boundless adrenaline and thirst for distraction into buying seeds, erecting trellises, or just sinking scallion ends into little pots of soil to see the onions regrow.

Plenty of wild turkeys for them to eat here if they want. Bit smaller perhaps and not so garish. For some reason Cambodians in some areas don't seem to want to eat them. never got an adequate explanation, but one khmer told me they could not eat turkeys because turkeys eat fish! new one on me but it is the KOW

In today's episode:
Good news for (most) CEO members
"Given the ongoing revelations of Neanderthal art and technology, it is difficult to see how we can regard Neanderthals as anything other than the cognitive equals of modern humans," the study said.
"A piece of 50,000-year-old string - the oldest yet discovered - found in a cave in France has cast further doubt on the idea that Neanderthals were cognitively inferior to modern humans."

Vietnam sets up rice "ATM"s doling out free rice to those in need.

We're all in this together,
"Terrorists, militants and criminal gangs join the fight against the coronavirus"
"Gang members have been driving around their communities (favelas in Brazil) announcing to residents: “We’re imposing a curfew because nobody is taking this seriously. Whoever is in the street screwing around or going for a walk will receive a corrective and serve as an example."
"In Lebanon, the militant group Hezbollah has mobilized 1,500 doctors, 3,000 nurses and paramedics, and 20,000 more activists to fight the coronavirus."
"In Afghanistan, the Taliban has disseminated videos on disinfection and mobilized its fighters to hand out face masks and soap. Libyan rebel forces have imposed a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus."

Finally, we're another step closer to letting the machines make all those pesky life decisions, Skynet here we come.
"Artificial intelligence (AI) is evolving—literally. Researchers have created software that borrows concepts from Darwinian evolution, including “survival of the fittest,” to build AI programs that improve generation after generation without human input. The program replicated decades of AI research in a matter of days, and its designers think that one day, it could discover new approaches to AI."

The only dude I have noticed on youtube without beer is King Marcos of OVERSTAY ROAD world..He is in lockdown in Luzon and ran out of beer...forced to drin k his rum and bourbon...
Here in my Province...I can go buy just about any beer of my choice from around the world...liquor..i saw about 6 types of just absolut ...wine...and cigarettes.
I spent the New Year with just my wife and abstained from drink last night...she doesn't drink and it was just not the same as past New Years here with Khmer friends...slamming Angkor and Cambodia by the case with chunked ice in the cooler...their bizarre..to me..drinking snacks...
By the sheer amount of kilos of ICE tea being confiscated..I can only assume a far greater amount of poundage is on the streets...
An 'addict' would not have much of a challenge in getting his or her 'fix'.
There is probably a lot of unpurchased weed around that the barang tourists did not purchase ...
Perhaps, people have learned to make do with less and count their blessings?
Perhaps, the World has learned the value of borders and being prepared?
The Boy's Scouts motto of Be Prepared was snuffed out by the left...and apparently its message trampled into dust ...
I agree that countries should examine their healthcare systems and especially the social medicine countries who have been caught with extreme shortages of ventilators..the USA needs a par system in every state and city and hospital....It is called The United States for a reason..States rights are important and responsibility goes along with it...
I, for one, feel so blessed to have been able to hear my wife sing New Years songs the last few days and be with her ...
The Bright Side is seeing her on her phone messenger video chatting with her family around the country...being able to share shrines and smile together ....check on each other.
All you poor schleps going cold turkey...hang the fuck in there...help is on the way..
riding a pale horse.....just kidding...
