Citizens of most countries can apply for a visa online or get one on arrival in Cambodia, however citizens of the following countries should arrange a visa before travel, from their nearest Cambodian Embassy: Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Nigeria
am sure there is more tour story than ur letting on, 35 years of in and out of thialand, never had any trouble
Had a friend from Thailand try to bring his truck over via Poipet (had the ID, Passport all the docs for truck etc) refused entry in Cambodia and no explanation why not.
PS u CANT cross with truck at Poi pet ( have said this many many times here).
ONLY at Koh Kong and Osmach!!!
The Iranians had visas for Cambodia.

I've had a retirement visa, last year. I went traveling in January and have had 2 land crossing, a tourist visa, and a non-b. I think, since traffic is down at the border, they are trying to play any angle they can to keep their incomes up.

That's my story. I'm stickin' to it. :beer3:

u had a non o visa for reasons of being over 50 ( 1 year or 90 days?)
OR u had a 1 year extension based on the fact ur retired??
there obviously suspicious of u as u keep changing ur visas.... Their doing their jobs......
IF u have the correct visa and ur not trying to fuck the system (as it seems ur trying to) Thailand is very easy

Richard, you're jumping to unfounded conclusions.

I had an extension based upon retirement.

I traveled for the first half of the year and came back into Thailand twice at border crossings.

When I got back I started teaching in a school, and hated it! When I quit I was on a non-o. It was at this point I left via Poipet.

Since I don't like even the thought of incarceration, I don't break many laws. Certainly not serious laws. Immigration doesn't play around, so I don't play around with them.

In my observation, people who have been in Thailand for 20+ years, as you have been, have a different point of view about Thailand. They remember when Thailand was an easy, fun country. Even my SO says that Thailand has changed, and she's Thai.
I have lived in Thailand for 7 years so my opinion is more contemporary and pragmatic. I was only living in Phuket for 1 week, 7 years ago, and someone tried to scam me out of 300,000bt. Most of my experiences are the same.
I recognize Thailand as a caste society, operating little feudal systems in places where they can. Thai's, everyone agrees, are racist and xenophobic.
After 7 years of nonsense, I have had enough. I'm certainly not submissive, have more self-respect and will not, willingly, subject myself to daily degradations.
I understand you like the place. I don't. We are going to have to agree to disagree.

1. if u were on an extension ( 1 year ) for reasons of retirement ( i did ask if 1 year NON ( visa or extension)
you could NOT LEGALLY be teaching as its not allowed on a retirement extension or a non O unless u got the extensions cause u were married.
When I got back I started teaching in a school....When I quit I was on a non-o.
so u cancelled ur retirement extension, left the country, came back in with a non B and got a wp??

U state
I've had a retirement visa, last year. I went traveling in January and have had 2 land crossing, a tourist visa, and a non-b
I have lived in Thailand for 7 years so my opinion is more contemporary and pragmatic
??

why? I have been living here for 31 out of the last 33 1/2 years, why is ur opinion more contemporary and pragmatic?? I dont see thialand thru rose tinted glasses. It is what it is.

YES, thailand has changed, they are trying to to route out the people that have been living here for years and working on a tourist visa. Thailand ( except for Cambodia) has the most relaxed visa policy in the area. Do the thais like Farangs here.....FUCK NO, but they put up with us cause we bring in $$$,,, are individual thai's friendly FUCK YES. I have found 99% of them to be decent, trustworthy, hard working people and the only times that someone has tried to cheat me has been by other Farangs!
Thai's, everyone agrees, are racist and xenophobic.
agree

End of the day.....live where u are happiest. But as u have never lived in Cambodia, let me tell ya, its not all paradise just cause its easy to stay

I don't have the time or inclination to argue with you, and you are jumping to more conclusions. I have never broken the laws of Thailand. Have a good day.

Thanks for the info about the truck "passport", Phuket. As for this argument you are having about the Thais, to be honest I'm sort of on the fence about them. I first set foot in Thailand 30 years ago and altogether I'd say I've lived in Thailand about 24 of them and speak Thai fluently so I guess I know as much about them as anyone possibly can (Maybe I should write a book?). Let's look at it from this angle: I can think of no other Asian ethnic group that, when asked, say they like the Thais. The Vietnamese don't like them, the Khmers despise them, the Laotians think they are arrogant and full of shit, the Burmese hate them, the Malays think they are stupid and immoral, and I could go on and on. Phuket, both you and I know that the Thais have changed a lot because of this "Westernization" process and there is no other way around it. They are no longer the laid back easy-to-smile people they were 30 years ago and before that. Now they are much more arrogant (can afford to buy more things because of an improved economy thus have better status and more "face" to play around with) and pushy and rude and their "smiles" are more forced superficial than before. Yes, in this world people are just people are just people but to deny that Thais collectively haven't changed over the past few decades is just plain wrong. Do I hate the Thais? No. Do I like the Thais? Not really. Will I be happy when I leave this country? I hope I will but to me Thailand was like my 17-year marriage. It started off great but slowly and very subtly over time we drifted apart (almost unnoticeably) until one day you wake up and realize that the spark that ignited your relationship is just no longer there- it is gone. At a personal level as individuals, we all change over time (some more than others) and so do countries.

Yeah, you guys need to call it a day. Why argue over this visa nonsense? Getting any 1-year, non-tourist visa in Thailand is a huge pain in the ass and everybody knows it, Phuket. Last time I got my extension the female immigration officer very snobbishly asked my why I haven't been back to the US in so many years as if it was any of her damn business or I had broken the law? What a bitch. And this "90 Day" thingy is just about the dumbest, most asinine law of them all. What's the use of having such a stupid law anyway? As if they're actually going to go to your house and check on you all the time? Have you EVER had an immigration officer go by your place, Richard? No you haven't and I haven't either. If you're as smart as I think you are, Richard, then you know that the overall legal structure in Thailand is very backwards and I say that as a non-critical person- it's just the way it is. After all, how many times have they revised their constitution over the last 80 years? Again, not to be critical (I actually hate politics) but let's keep it real.

Well, I'm only a little more than a month away from making the jump from Thailand and I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience about what is the best border crossing to take to go from Thailand to Cambodia? By best I mean by I want to be "in and out" (Out of Thailand and into Cambodia) as easily and quickly as possible. And also, have any of you had any issues with things like medications (pills and stuff like that) when crossing the border or do the customs guys get nosy and want to see every single item you take over the border? I must admit it's been awhile since I've left Thailand and I want to know in advance how things are now so I can prepare for any possible bullshit. Thanks for the help. guys.
id say mate, it all depends on where you want to be in Cambodia,

if you want to go to Siem Reap/Battambang, go via Poi Pet
If you want to go to Sihanoukville/Kampot, go via Koh Kong
if you want to go to Phnom Penh, FLY!!

To phuketrichard (just joined this forum, and seems that PM is not possible here)
I have seen that you earlier stated that a Thai car can only be brought into Campuchea at Koh Kong (Trat) and Osmah (Surin). Is that still the case in your opinion??
We want to do a round trip in Southern region (Sianukville, PP, ...) a it seem like Pailin is also worth a visit. But also warned against Koh Kong (scam pkace) and some other reports that we have to leave at same border.
Thank you for all your extensive reporting, and I hope for another update from you 😄
